Snug up the packing nut Problem solved.
ОтветитьThat is nice a dandy, BUT, most stores do not sell the rebuild kits due to costing as close to the cost of the faucet, unless your rich and but those $100 plus a piece outdoor faucets to which a limited brand, the store might stock those rebuild kits for around 40 to $60 bucks. Most make you replace the whole frost free faucet about every 3 years, depending on how hard your water is, because the seals start leaking water. Most of those faucets are a CHINESE MADE JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьThanks for posting this clip. I got my faucet fixed.
ОтветитьAw that was awesome !! Thank you !!
ОтветитьYou saved my bacon! Thanks buddy!
ОтветитьAnyone that sprays WD40 on something with corrosion and tells you to let it sit and work, has no clue how to work on stuff
ОтветитьThanks. I changed my leaky spigot. The hardest part was finding a replacement gasket (Westlake Ace Hardware hooked me up).
ОтветитьWD-40 is not a penetrating oil lol it is a water drying material that happens to be somewhat lubricious
ОтветитьGenius
ОтветитьSilicone washers are also commonly used in plumbing fixtures and have some advantages over nylon washers. Silicone is highly flexible and can conform to irregular surfaces, making it a good choice for creating a tight seal in plumbing connections. It is also resistant to high temperatures and chemicals, making it suitable for a wide range of plumbing applications.
Compared to nylon washers, silicone washers are generally more durable and have a longer lifespan. They are less likely to degrade over time due to exposure to water, chemicals, or extreme temperatures. Silicone washers also have better resistance to compression set, meaning they can maintain their shape and sealing properties even after repeated use.
However, nylon washers are generally more cost-effective compared to silicone washers. They are also easier to find in standard plumbing fixtures.
In summary, both nylon and silicone washers can create effective seals in plumbing fixtures, but silicone washers tend to offer better durability and resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. The choice between the two depends on the specific requirements of the plumbing application and personal preferences.
Thank GOD you did this video! We have a leaky outdoor faucet and no money to call a plumber. What a relief to see this repair so clearly demonstrated.
ОтветитьReplacing the washer will help but many times it is a short term fix. The metal the seat that the washer contacts to shut off the water flow is going to get rough over time. This will eat up the new washer fairly quickly depending on how much damage there is to the seat. There are seat smoothing tools available. I saw some many years ago that reshaped with a smooth rounded top like the factory seat. Now they just smooth and flatten the seat.
What if the spigot was installed with the wrong angle ... Angled in?
ОтветитьBig mistake! Don't ever tighten the faucet to turn it off. Just barely tightened, very light, won't leak and preserves the washer for decades. All the washer needs is contact.
ОтветитьThanks.
ОтветитьThanks, great video, but I have a different problem. My spigot gets 95% tight/closed then feels like it strips thru the threading and is a raging stream of water again. So it's never able to close all the way. I can stem the flow if i apply force on the spigot towards the house, but obviously cant keep it there, it pops back open. I've been able to temporarily fix with thread tape at the spigot connection as you did, but usually doesn't hold up an entire season. Any thoughts on what else could be damaged / needs replacement?
ОтветитьMy 3 exterior spigots were leaking like a water fountain every time I turned them on. Took a small adjustable wrench and tightened the nut. Problem solved.
ОтветитьActually you are required to break off the set screw after installing the vacuum breaker to prevent removal.
ОтветитьAwesome video. Easy peasy. Hey if you get a chance to do a related video. We make the HOSE BIB BUDDY. Look it up. We'll send you a couple. (Plumberlorian got 4M views.)
ОтветитьThank you for your video. Do you have any recommendations on how to loosen the mineral deposit before turning? Our faucet has a lot of deposits. Thanks!
ОтветитьVery well done. Thanks for doing it.
ОтветитьHow do you click on the other videos?
Thanks!
Î
Ответитьawesome !! thank you
ОтветитьWhere would I even find my water shut off valve at?
ОтветитьTerrific video! Followed your instructions and stopped my leaking spigot. BTW - Before fixing this using your video, I called a plumber to review the situation, and he provided a ridiculous and expensive “solution” that I quickly rejected. Lesson learned - Check how-to videos first before calling a contractor. Doing so would have saved me some time and money.
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video. It gave me the confidence I needed to fix my leaky outside faucet. A $0.86 washer did the trick. You explain what you're doing very well. Again, thank you for saving me from calling a plumber.
ОтветитьWhy is your patio separated from your house?
ОтветитьGreat information - thank you.
ОтветитьJust plug it up with chewing gum.
ОтветитьBall valves or gate valves are much better, they dont leak. You have a shutoff inside .Drain in winter , the pipe is pitched down. Forget the freeze proof faucets, they are lousy.
ОтветитьWhat you really want to do is pull the whole thing off, ad a 90 to the pipe a 3 foot riser to another 90 another short piece and make the damn hose bib up to a height that's
more comfortable to manage.
Just keep in mind that if its a really old faucet, the O ring my fall apart as when you try to remove it, leaving you without a reference. Then your calling a plumber.
I just bought a two way splitter with quarter turn valves and installed it on the leaky faucet. Just leave the faucet open and use quarter turn valves.
Really helpful ... thanks
ОтветитьThis video came in clutch to fix our leaky spigot. Assorted faucet washer pack at Ace for $6 and 15 min later no more leaky spigot. Thanks!
ОтветитьIt's all great when you have a serviceable valve but non serviceable valves require a plumber
ОтветитьI have a much simpler and faster solution. Just add a Y
ОтветитьGotta say… short sweet and accurate. Very good confident presentation!! Well done and helpful
ОтветитьI went down to get repair kit at the hardware store and found none. 15 dollars for a spigot, so why sell washers. Heading to a plumbing store. Some faucets take rounded washers, thought this video would help. There is no standards anymore.
ОтветитьFabulous video! Thank you!
ОтветитьIf u can u should replace the washer seat also
ОтветитьYou hold the pliers wrong way.
ОтветитьThank you thank you thank you. I had two of them and they charged me 500 mucks to replace one including brick repair. I didn't have him do the other one and thank god because this video let me do it myself.
ОтветитьAnother issue associated with the old washer which was not mentioned in this video: If you observe carefully the old washer you will notice that its diameter increased from being flattened over time. The increased diameter will restrict to some degree the flow of water.
ОтветитьGreat video well explained thanks!!!
ОтветитьGreat information if everything goes right. 75% it does. 25% of the time the household is without water for the weekend and someone has spent 2 days of their time off of work doing something they aren't very good at, and they are in trouble with those who live with them. This is one of my favorite service calls to make on Monday morning.
ОтветитьThanks. I’ll go work on my slightly leaky valve outside.
ОтветитьI think I have the same faucet you do, but I cannot find a replacement flat washer. Do you happen to know the size/part# of yours?
ОтветитьThank you so much
