I was at Parris Island two weeks from graduating Marine Corp boot camp when 9/11 happened. I was a reservist and as soon as MCT was over after boot camp we got activated to Camp Lejeune for the next 4 years instead of getting to go to college. It sucked but at least I didn't have to go to the desert.
