Portal Update seems to be fine at first and then like an hour into it and then just freezes and loses connection. I can just reconnect and it works fine for a while and then freezes again.

I'd be hard-pressed to believe that even as few as 3 million PS2s were used exclusively as DVD players.

If the Sega Dreamcast had a DVD Player in the Dreamcast before PS2, then Sega would still be in the hardware business. Your attempt at revisionist history is quite baffling given your knowledge on the Sony Playstation brand. I remember the launch of PS2 back in October 26th of 2000 and it was a very weak launch. What were the big sellers on the PS2 at the time? The DVD player and being able to play PS1 games on the PS2. It wasn't until 2001/2002 when the games started to kick into high gear. Never underestimate the power of the DVD had back in the early 2000s. It was a powerhouse and a huge system seller.

I’d buy a new Astrobot game (as long as it’s not a VR game). I loved the pack in game.

PS2 was a great console, all of my relatives loved it because there was a game for everyone, racers for me, shooters for my dad, adventures for my mom, etc. We never actually used PS2 as a DVD player😂 and I still have the system, it’s the best generation and we still find some hidden gems to play!

Sony nailed ONE in their MANY attempts at live service. Until they make another one, it's just a fluke and even then they need a few to show they didnt just get lucky a couple times. Chill out and stop shilling.

A significant portion of PS2's sold were most definitely purchased solely for use a DVD player. I had 4 growing up, 1 at home with mom where i mainly used it for games and the other 3 were at my father's and 2 the grandparents on each side and if I wasn't there to play them, all they were ever used for was for dvds.

I convinced them to get them specifically for that reason and I can't tell you how many friends growing had similar situations or even multiple in the house where they get used 80% of the time for dvds

Just stop diluting PS5 game development to be compatible with the PS4 so the games can finally push the full power of the PS5 we have now. Been waiting years now with my current PS5 to get full PS5 games, not PS4/PS5 games. Screw the PS5 Pro gimmick.

I usecto never use my PS2 for dvds. I know some ppl who did. It definitely wasn't a cheap dvd player I agree. I did use the ps3 to watch a lot of blu-rays though. 👍

I would be shocked if it's a showcase. I only expect a State of Play to be honest. Do they have enough content coming for a showcase this year? Maybe next year, but certainly not this year.

Uhhh I thought there was no way to not update your Portal, like it makes you connect to the internet to use it, it is a streaming device, not a piece of hardware that runs native hardware.
And when you connect to the internet the Portal makes you update it... Spawn Wave went over this.
So even if you held onto a brand new one... You aren't going to be able to use it without an update automatically being applied.

I literally got the Xbox1 S so i could watch 4k blu rays with the added benefit of playing Xbox1 games. So there are people out there like me who get game consoles to watch media more than to play games. I am positive thats why ps2 sold as many as it did.

that uncle that bought the ps2 because it was cheaper than a dvd player but also was a console sure as hell played 1000's of hours of grand theft auto's, gran turismo, ratchet and clank, etc
