QOTD 💥 Which Procedure do you think is better? Have you or a family member gone through refractive surgery? How did it go?

I actually had SMILE a few days ago and while one eye was 20/20 the next day, the other is still very blurry at all distances and seeing double when it comes to lights (I see ghosting a of a light a little down and to the right).

When I was having the operation, for my left eye I looked directly at the green dot in the middle. For my right eye when I did that, the surgeon told me to look down a little bit, so I wasn't looking directly at it. Is it possible that it's off center for my right eye? It has shown no signs of getting better. I have a follow-up appointment soon, but I'm very concerned.

I just had PRK. I was little bit upset because my cornea was thin although I had laser procedure kind of thickening/ covering up the cornea, my doctor advised me doing PRK.

I underwent a PRK vision correction operation 5 months ago, and I noticed that my eyes were atrophied and small in size when comparing my current pictures with those that I took before the operation, noting that the device used in the operation is a schwind amaris 500e..Has anyone done PRK and noticed the same thing?

Getting PRK tomorrow! very excited! Good video to remind me of the differences and my choice for PRK over LASIK.
Kinda funny how cheap it is in the US vs AUS meanwhile a broken arm in the US can send you bankrupt without insurance.

I just had PRK 2 days ago. Very little soreness, maybe a bit just after waking up in the morning but then once I put my drops in it goes away.
My vision now is blurry like an old 320-480p standard definition TV as I have the protective lens on. Once I get that off I should be much better.
The procedure itself is about 5 mins per eye and painless as they numb ur eye. It just feels a bit awkward as they clamp ur eye open.
I’m looking forward to no more glasses again. I’m 41 now and had LASIK when I was 24, it lasted me until I was 37 before I had to go back to wearing glasses. Round 2 u could say

This is insane. Are you serious!? The eye is the most fragile part of the body and needs to be protected. And you are literally describing and showing a video of "peeling" of an eye. Who needs to watch a horror movie when they can look up surgeons at work. If you have to watch your own eyes getting peeled without anesthetic and then burnt with a laser, that is completely unacceptable.

I'd rather walk to school with glasses than suffer this operation. I don't think this surgery can correct a limiter range of focus if it essentially places a permanent lens that can't be adjusted on top of the eye.

I just had Lasik on June 30, 2023 and had to wear glasses for 13 years. It went very, fast in under a few minutes. First day was hell, left eye healed very fast. There was problems and burning with the right eye for a few days, then about 8 days later the it was like the left eye. Its amazing. I have may vision back that I had when I was 20 years old. The cost was about $1600 with tax per eye.

My only regret is not getting this done 7 years ago and I spend the more money on stupid shit and then I realized Lasik is a no brainer. If you been to Hawaii you spend more money on the island then fixing your own eyes. Think about that and let it set in.

I am on day 8 after PRK and while my vision is still blurry, it is slowly improving. The worst thing for me was the extreme light sensitivity during the first 3 days. I slept throughout most of that time. My prescription before surgery was -4.75 in my left eye and -5.5 in my right. Yesterday I wore my husband's glasses for funsies (-2.5 in both eyes) and they were a bit too strong for me. Hope my vision is clear soon.

i've heard horror stories about dry eyes and complications due to pupil dilation. Are doctors not factoring this in before they proceed? What is the standard procedure for elective eye surgery?

Not worth the risks. Unless you can't see at all even with glasses, there is no point in risking it.

Masha have hyperopia.. Her far vison is blurry and near vison is clarity.. Her eye is squishy.. Her vision is 20/20 - 20/10 as a range.. So she is far sighted.. She wear glasses and specs to cause her eyes to enlarge, magnify, and zoom in as a seemless illusiuon and mirage.. Even though she didn't use one eye to proove that.. She memorized letters.. You may cause her eyes's vision to worsen and degrade.. There is no distance.. Just the same 10 feet distance, while she sat there.. Not 20 feet.. There is no proof..

I'm roughly -8.5 both eyes. I'm really tempted to get one one day. Lenses are so expensive, and glasses give me motion sickness from time to time. My vision is so bad without glasses that sunglasses and swimming goggles are just so expensive, sometimes hard to find as well. It really frustrates me when I'm doing sports. They either get knocked down my balls or get shaken off. Sure, it's nothing I can't manage. I'm living a quality life. But sometimes I'd imagine how nice it'd be to be free from it
