I just bought this prebuilt. Mainly went with this for the price point and power vs competitors like outfront or IAG. $3400 and 550awhp sounded like the best bang for buck option out there

There is something I am not able to get an answer for. With there being so many old Subarus with rebuilt/ reworked engines, do those old cars keep their AWD systems? Or do they buy new ones from the OEM?

We did bolt stretch on naval diesels. Same type gauge just way bigger lol

I had a new motor shred itself a couple months back. We didn't touch the internals or the timing either, a shop did that. Turned out a lot of the head work he did was out of spec. Denied any accountability so I'm just stuck eating a 15k loss and having to get another motor 😅.

Isn’t it better if building a 750hp engine and use it at 400whp ? Engine should last loooog time ?

I had to use a rod bolt stretch gauge rebuilding naval diesels. Waaaaaay bigger than that one lol but it’s nice to know my diesel experience transfers over quite a bit.

I know this isn’t your recent video but I wanted to tell you you’re doing great my good dude. I’ve been watching you for a while but I always come to you for questions because you’re the man. I have a 2007 wrx and an ej20 you told me the 2019 type ra short block was pretty good for longevity. All I wanted to ask was if All I needed was the ej20 head and throw it right on the built block

I'm seriously considering building an FA20 short block come spring, never done it before so I am doing a ton of research now, I know I can do it, it's just as you probably know kind of intimidating. Where did you buy your short block internals? And do you have any good sources for me to get reliable bearing clearance and ring gap advice for the FA20? That's the only thing I'm frustrated on, I have no idea what the tolerances should be

The big thing with building is who you take the block to to be machined. Whenever splitting the case on a EJ/FA the crank bearing and rod bearing clearances basically go out the window and should be re machined. It’s very specific and is something everyone should be aware of prior to building an EJ/FA

So glad I built my own motor. Aside from the cost savings, it is tremendously satisfying to have done it myself. I am also mentally prepared for it to blow up at any time, although it has been going strong for the past 30k miles :)

Best decision I made was building my motor like I took my time checking all brand new parts and rechecking like u said u have to be confident in yourself and it will go problem free I’m shooting for 450-500whp

If they give you instructions on how to build it then everyone should be able to feel comfortable doing so. All you have to do is follow them right
