Yang Xinhai, also known as the “Monster Killer,” was a notorious Chinese serial killer responsible for a series of heinous crimes. Born on July 29, 1968, in Zhengyang County, Henan, China, Yang’s life took a dark turn leading him to commit 67 murders and 23 rapes between 1999 and 2003. His victims were primarily farmers, whom he attacked at night using tools like axes, hammers, and shovels. Yang’s criminal activities spanned across the provinces of Anhui, Hebei, Henan, and Shandong. Yang’s early life was marked by poverty and he dropped out of school at the age of 17. He had previous convictions for theft and attempted rape before embarking on his murderous spree. His motives were reportedly a mix of revenge against society and a perverse enjoyment of robbery, rape, and murder. He was apprehended on November 3, 2003, and following a trial, he was sentenced to death. Yang Xinhai was executed by firing squad on February 14, 2004. He remains one of the most prolific known serial killers in China’s recent history.
