My best friend and I went to an air show in 1985 at the El TORO Marine air base. They some Top Gun guys up from San Diego. We asked one of the pilots how long it took to get from San Diego to El TORO. He said about 10mins. and the whole time that they over the water they where about 50 feet above it. True ? I don't know I just know the story he told us.

High Speed, is an SR71 overflight at Mach 3+. Horizon to horizon in 22 seconds, from 40,000 feet up. You guys are woosies.

Under MACH is not "high speed". Air shows in my youth had F4's do lower flybys at M 1.3. When that boom hits you, you KNOW what fast is. Today's air shows are for pansies.

I once saw an "alarm start" of a Eurofighter (Thrust-to-weight ratio around 1.15 - which means it could go 90° up) with afterburner. It broke the sound barrier at quite some height but holy sh.t - that was a sound I've never heard before. There was an Me-262 (it was an air show and a reworked Me-262) before that was already loud. But that Eurofighter was next-level. It was said that children should wear ear protections before the Eurofighter started and everyone realized they were not kidding.

But they couldn't catch a passenger jet on 9\11........
