DUDE. You rock. Thank you <3
ОтветитьThanks for the video.
ОтветитьThanks for the great video, I've been pondering using Audition for my voice-over work but I'm still not sure.
Noise gates aren't a solution that replaces software noise reduction because when the noise gate gets lifted by a loud enough signal you can still hear the noise.
You'd still need a sample of noise to eliminate it from the whole track.
While it is true that if you speak the noise is less noticeable, it's still there.
Just found your channel a few days ago when I was trying to figure out if the fifine mic was oki! Now I'm just binge watching all ur videos 😂 I always get annoyed when I hear the air conditioner or the fan in my videos but I don't have access to professional software, so I just use blackmagics davinci resolve huhu
ОтветитьAudio engineer checking in. Noise reduction is a subtractive equalization process where the overall sound level is reduced frequency-by-frequency to the point of eliminating the background noise of, say, preamps, channel strips, and microphone self-noise but doesn't work well on loud sources or asynchronous sounds like clicking or hammering or even long-period noises like fan squeaks. Those require other solutions or retracking with better isolation. By contrast, gates simply close the entire channel down when the overall (or keyed-frequency) sound level falls below a certain threshold. However, once the channel is gated open, you get all the noise in addition to the signal so it only eliminates noise when the gate is active and has closed the channel. Noise reduction, by contrast, is always removing the targeted frequencies. That process breaks down when you gain up a channel after applying noise reduction or when using make-up gain in compression and is still audible when raising to mastered levels. Noise is a very advanced topic and some noise is desirable and is even added in mixing music to create complementary harmonics, produce saturation, commingle the stereo field, etc.,. For live situations or for podcasting, I would suggest rather than a gate to look into using an expander instead, which applies a smoother attack and doesn't create the jarring "on-off" effect of a gate nearly as much. Noise reduction, which often uses a Fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm, can also cause unwanted digital modulation effects to source audio as well as reduce fidelity and mess with the overall EQ, so it's not a perfect tool, either. Prevention is always the best medicine - quality mics, preamps, cabling, and mixing equipment in an isolated space with good signal to noise gain staging is the best way to reduce noise.
ОтветитьThat was a really great video. I’m gonna try. Thanks Tom!
ОтветитьDear Tom. I am using a Rode PODmic and a RODEcaster Pro for recording. I love them. However, I am getting little dropouts or clipping in audio as I am recording. Seems to only be noticeable while monitoring. The playback seems clear. Could it be that I have the mic gain set to high, and that there is potential background noise causing the clip-outs? Consider your brain picked... Thanks, Scott.
ОтветитьGreat content! So helpful and informative. :)
ОтветитьI use that same angled adapter! ha!
ОтветитьGee, Tom. Sorry that I haven't come back for your channel update for a while. Almost forget how great your video and audio effect is [thumb up]
Your channel is like a breeze. Every time I went into a mess, and when I watched and listened to your content. My troubles were just 'gone'. Just like a HISssSTORY ;-)
lol, stay health, and happy new year again.
Can I make a request? Would you make a video on the ducking option on the rode caster?
ОтветитьUsing a gate takes experience. There isn't a bullet proof gate solution but if you are doing post production on your audio, you should always try to avoid using nose suppression because it damages audio fidelity inherently. This is a very well-known fact. Instead, you use a gate after a compander and use hysteresis to control the gate. Since this is post work, take the time to listen to the audio and double check the gate Dynamics. That's it. But noise suppression should never be used on any track unless you absolutely have to due to an annoying audible sound like a fan. Instead, use a gate and automate. Again, this takes experience and just putting a gate on a track almost never works perfectly...you have to manually tailor certain parts where the pauses in your articulation are outside the gate thresholds.
ОтветитьAm I the only ass that couldn’t hear a difference?
ОтветитьDo you run the Rode Videomic NTG through your Rodecaster Pro? If so, how? TRRS?
ОтветитьWoah, the channel has grown a lot since I first subscribed during my Jr. year in high school. Keep it up Mr. Buck!
ОтветитьHow do u use the voice changer in games
Ответитьdid you record this with ECAM live or you did a screen record ?
ОтветитьAt 61 I have no desire to learn another program. I have a Microsoft Surface that main purpose is to run SoundForge (They have a ‘noice reduction’ plugin as well). But one thing that I think is most important is that Audio is more important than the video I think it 60% audio and 40% video most of the time. Spoken like a Sound guy ... LOL
