Playing Resident Evil 1 For The First Time

As someone who was 12 years old when the original game came out, I honestly can’t imagine playing it for the first time in the 2020s. Unlike, say, Super Mario 3, those early 5th gen games are… rough to say the least.

The only real RE games are RE1-3, 0, CV. RE4+ are not RE games. Should be their own franchises.
1st remake is the 11/10 and as good as the franchise ever got. 2nd remake was lazy, cut core content. 3 was extremely lazy and overall a really terrible game.

Fixed camera angles and tank controls are NOT only limitations, they are features.
Fixed camera angles can be done bad as anything, and is an excellent way to let the environments tell the story, you see yourself as the person just intruding whilst the house tell the story the way intended.
Controls are not hard to understand if you aren't a complete noob.
Not being able to move while aiming make it more tactical as you have to chose when to attack since it's more a dedication than a free kiting simulator.

Anyone hating on the core features of RE games are not RE fans, that simple. They want the arcade action and have the attention span of 5 year olds. THIS <is> RE, and it's survival horror, nothing else. The art of fixed camera angles were introduced in the first RE remake, Code veronica and RE0, all of those games released in a time where they no longer HAD to use these features due to limitations, they were intentional additions.
There is also this game called Tormented Souls that is a RE game to the core, different franchise ofc but more RE than any RE4+ garbage cRapcom spit out anyways, so go check it out if you want more of this legendary content!

I'd like to add to the puzzle solving not being frustrating point, because I watched your footage and realised that the solution for he door to the V-Jolt room was to look at the balls on the pool table. But because of the lights on the panel, I never thought to look anywhere else and managed to open the door through 'brute-forcing' it. Which is clever!

The acting was done that way on purpose. The devs wrote the dialog as a parody of b-grade horror movies from the 70’s and 80’s. That why it’s very hammy, and doesn’t fit the scenes most of the type: they were channeling budget actors from schlocky films.

Chris can actually take a bit more damage than Jill. He's definitely still the hard mode of the game for sure.

What about it 360 they released the GameCube remake on 360 and Xbox one now

Residence Evil did not birth the survival horror genre, credit for that may belong to Sweet Home or perhaps Clock Tower.

Acting was perfect

It's been a blast watching you play through the classics for the first time. I was there at the beginning. Played resi 1 when I was 14 and have been a fan ever since. You are the only reviewer who has captured your genuine feeling without going down the 'It's old so it's shit' route.

The tank controls are one of the biggest controversies of the game series and I think once you get used to it its as natural as any other scheme. Therre is something about dodging through a hallway of zombies without taking any damage that is not re created anywhere else. The "horror" is multidimensional as well. The gore and few jump scares can only carry you so far. The anticipation and the anxiety induced by not having ammo or not knowing if there are any more health items etc are just as good as the jump scares and visceral images.And then there is the contrast of when you are in the save rooms compared to the rest of the environments. Really breaks up the tension only to throw you back into it as its the only place to go. Definitely can carry into the later play throughs.

You played it for first time? Now I am jealous. RE is the first game I purchased together with my PS1 console. Playing it at 11pm until 1am in 1998 while I was still a teenager was one of my great memory.

I hate this game so much lol. I couldn’t play it without a guide because I refused to give up two hours of my life to solve every single puzzle. This is what games used to be, and are a nice benchmark to see how far they have come. There is a reason they don’t make them like this anymore.

The voice acting being horrendous is due to several factors: budget, difficult time translating, only have two takes for each line of dialogue or scenes, potentially bad voice actors/actresses because they were totally new, etc.

The acting is so bad because it is intentional! Resident Evil combines Horror and B-Movie style. I loooove the original! More than the Remake

I remember a friend bringing this game over to show me. I was instantly hooked. I'd even say that without that experience I wouldn't be the gamer I at today.

Me and my friends were making fun ofnit at school in the playground. We would just walk around pretending to be Barry pointing and flailing our arms saying 'What iiiisss it!'. We used to laugh about the carnage of them having a dinner party and all the glasses and cutlery getting launches across the table due to the arm flailing.

As a kid this game felt like solving Scooby-Doo mystery. At first I thought it was a haunted house with supernatural monsters but finding out the truth blow my little mind.

These vids keep popping up in may recommended, and It's been fun rewatching them. We don't always agree, but I always value your opinion. Weather It's Sonic. RE, etc.

RE: Director's Cut that's not the Dual Shock release is the best version of the original game...that's the one I recommend be played.

All RE fans know CAPCOM ripped us off with RE 2 and 3 remakes. No zap mechanics in RE2 was very disappointing and RE3 was way too short.
