I've never understood "I'll go easy," because how is the game fun if you're nerfing yourself? Unless you're trying to teach a friend or something.

I hang out with a pro gamer occasionally, never picked up enough actual skill to bring over to my usual game group, but I can throw grenades really well now. that's about it

yeah, that is why when agreeing to do some warm ups you always agree on a number of matches ahead of time. that way if the pro gets greedy and finishes the matches quick then that sort of shenanigans ends quick as well. if he lets you run around and actually put in effort then it does end up being a good warm up even if he wins in the end.

I remember first time I played 007 with my friend. Literally first time. He said let's play and wouldn't tell me what the controls were. I couldn't aim, didn't know where to walk, couldn't fire my weapons or defend. He wouldn't even tell me which half of the screen was me until he killed me. This brings back all those horrible memories and frustrations.
