VSCodium -- Visual Studio Code without the Microsoft

Has anyone successfully compiled and installed Marlin 2.0 firmware with this rather than VSCode? I'm running Debian and absolutely refuse to defile my Linux machines with MS pollution.

Ive been using it for a while, it is definitely much faster and less bloated than vsc.
It does lack some popular extensions, but that is the price we have to pay for beeing ms free.

What if all other editor creators convert their plugins to work with vscodium?

You should use light theme on your tutorials. Some of us are using smaller screens to watch your videos. Dark screens do not display as clearly as light themes do. A large computer monitor may (in fact it does) display dark theme better than small ones do. Besides, the brightness of a large monitor can be adjusted if it is too bright.

you can use the official microsoft extension server by changing the settings in product.json

Wish they can add some sort of auto-migrate of extensions...

VScodium works a lot better on Linux compared to VScode, btw.

Been using it for 2 months now and its pretty awesome, same as vscode, was really easy to migrate my settings and extensions from vscode, and added an alias on bashrc to use code instead of codium when launching from terminal.

It's like Chromium( the web browser ) vs Chrome( the market screening tool )

So it's vs code without the telemetry, the telemetry that's used to make it better and will filter down into the open source version. 🤔

NOPE, I am not one of those cry-babies that hates everything MS does. I really like VSCode and what it offers is not something that can be easily beaten. Imma stick with VSCode. Thanks for the video though!

Honestly I can't see myself downloading this simply because it's Open Source. It has to actually be better than VS Code for me to use it otherwise I just can't see this being popular unless your paranoid of Microsoft for whatever reason

Are there still 400 different esoteric config options that all have to be disabled if I don't want boxes full of bullshit popping up over whatever I'm typing on every single keypress?

The deal breaker with VSCodium (as well as similar projects like Code in arch) for me is the lack of syncing capability. I use a lot of different computers, and like all of my settings to just automatically sync.

I saw lyra project from UE5 examples.
How did you manage to run UE5 with vs code?
What do you do when you need to build project from ide?
(I'm using win10 but i guess steps should be same)

The same thing but worse. It's a pain to realize you can't install extensions and have to enable it manually.
