Good video! I OpedCore'd my 2012 MacPro for years, until MacOS Big Sur ... had to move on to some newer hardware then. Understanding OC is also super-important for Hackintosh builders

Perhaps Apple should introduce paid support for old Macs, I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for official support after a number of years, I'm glad we have OpenCore to fallback on.

Thank you so much for this video! Now I have a much better understanding of this whole, rather confusing, topic. I always thought that Open Core was some dubious borderline illegal software, but am now much more at ease with it.

How quick are they to releasing a version of legacy patcher for new OS updates like Sonoma? My 2017 iMac was sadly chopped off and I don’t want Ventura to be the last version it runs. Does it usually take them weeks or months after the official major release?

Very helpful! THank you. I don't know if you can help me with this, but before installing Open Core Legacy Patcher and OS Ventura a few days ago, my imac was running OS High Sierra (hadn't been able to get above that update) and on an alternate boot, Linux had been installed. I think I f....d up and now I can only find a boot for Ventura which says EPI in it. Can I pull Linux and the old mac restore booters back out of the OCLPboot directly into Ventura, or has all the old stuff been overwritten by OCLPboot and OS Ventura? I am not much of a techie, but try. Thanks if you can refer me to any help to weed my other booters out of the OCLPboot directly into OS Ventura! AJ

Can I trust 0CLP with personal data on my machine? I know I have to make the decision myself and measure the risk blah blah blah, but do any of you have personal private information on an 0CLP computer? I mean what benefit do the OCLP guys get for doing this free work? Sure it’s open source but is it the actual code or is it just a copy of all the code and it’s what they say is all the code when it could be missing parts? Could these guys just look at anybody’s computer and what’s in it? I would love to Upgrade my computer but I don’t see the point of doing it if I can’t even use it for personal use. Do you or any of you out there? Have your personal information on these machines and if so why do you trust it? I would really like to know because I would really like to feel good about running Ventura on my old MacBook Pro and use Universal Control with my iPad. Thx

Could be that this goes through this process.

A clarification please. Is open core restricted to the EFI partition, that is, it's on a different partition than Mac OS itself?

Hey, very good video and very informative so far. But I have one quick question! I have a mid-2015 Macbook Pro that has an aftermarket SSD, which Apple prevented from installing any subsequent OS. If I download and install OpenCore Legacy Patcher, will it allow the updates to go through on this aftermarket drive? I can't seem to find any documentation on this on the OpenCore installation docs, so I figured I'd ask before trying. Thanks :)!

I have 2 2011 5,1 Mac Pros and want to upgrade them both. I am curious, can I install OCLP on an external SSD drive just to test it out and then clone it to the internal one if I have issues? Also, does keeping the old bluetooth cards allow for hand off between devices or does it require the card to be upgraded?

I had no problem running MacOS Monterey til the latest Update on Virtualbox with a AMD Ryzen CPU and without soecific bootloader like Charmeleon or Clover, but Ventura is a different beast. Install performs normal but on first Boot after install it crahes and goes in a Panic loop.
However. I applied OpenCore legacy Patcher on a running Monterey and upgraded it with Ventura but it still runs into Crash panic loop at boot. Maybe its bc i cannot reach the Fuction keys required to let OpenCore Bootpicker apear on start? Can i use Legacypatcher or a trick to let Legacypatcher as the default boot option instead having to press keys combination during boot to make boot picker show up?

hi, i understand oclp 0.6.2 was just released. 0.6.1 and previous versions could not identify windows & Linux partitions at startup disk, because of which i had to go back to catalina-dosdude1....

OCLP efi bootloader fails to show partitions.. why?...Is this intentional

Can oclp 0.6.2 identify partitions... pls advise...thanks

I installed OCLP 6.1 on my 2012 Macpro a few days ago. I had a few issues but managed it after a couple of tries. I remember years ago hacking wifi firmware to get my wireless card to work on Linux. Compared to that, it was easy. It's so cool to be running Monterrey on old hardware! Thanks so much for these videos.

I work mostly with audio. I wish that something like Opencore existed for patching FireWire support into modern macos. I have 16 wonderful sounding preamps that will only work with Mojave or earlier. How would I go about developing an audio driver that would allow me to use my audio interfaces with big sur? Has anybody done this? Am I shit out of luck?

Great Explanation!
I really haven't figured this out successfully, I kinda caved into buying a real Mac with the M1
Pretty sweet setup, still trying to figure out how to build a Hackintosh into my AMD TrueNAS Scale system im making to mess with.
Back in the early 2k's there was a ALOSHI DVD Image I belie it was called, I was able to get that version of OSX Leopard I believe it was, working on a PIII Dell tower & got it running ProTools.
but that was 20 years ago lol

Man I wish OC worked for me, and I wish I had the time to read and digest the full OC documentation so I could attempt the old school customized OC install. For me OCLP just never worked, and the so called community for me was next to non existent. The only support offered is a rather petulant and grumpy Baltic guy who simply doesn’t want to help anyone. I had to revert back to dodsude patching as that seems to work more reliably on my setup. I really wanted OCLP to work as it’s a brilliant bit f software and a really clever idea. Oh well
