I’m a Nigerian Jamaican American girl. I one time had my bing natural Afro out. People at school didn’t bully me for it, they just kept touching it. I one time even slapped someone’s hand off my hair. I wish people gave me privacy… but I’m glad to see the history of our beautiful natural hair❤

I will never look down on a person for their hair choices, but just love seeing what people’s hair can do when they treat it the way it wants to be treated. My hair was straight when I was a kid, but as I’ve gotten older it’s begun to favour loose curls. It took me a long time to learn how to treat it right so that it doesn’t frizz or turn bristly, but now I have a routine down that is easy to manage, leaves it soft, and I love he way it looks.

As a white woman, I love seeing this just as much as I loved seeing the white hair version. Perhaps liked it even more, since I'm not that familiar with this hair type.

Since I was a kid I’ve always been in love with all the different styles I’ve seen in black hair. I remember my friends in school coming in every few weeks showing off their new braids with different lengths and colors and designs. I’m not sure if my mom being a hairdresser inspired my appreciation for hair in general but as an artist, I love drawing/painting different hairstyles and textures and there are soooo many absolutely stunning hairstyles for black women especially that I use as inspiration for my art❤ I’m thankful for educational videos like these that give me more historical context, especially if I am working on a painting set in a specific time in history
