Why would someone pick a major for the sole purpose it'll maybe give you a good job. Pick a major of something you're passionate about so you don't want to kill yourself self for 4 years

with all the people having mental illness these days, I think psychology is an excellent choice...best advice, major in your passion...what do you like doing the most?...and put in the time and effort and you will be successful...AND, so many people major in the best degrees and are absolutely MISERABLE...I have a friend who is a doctor of medicine and makes six figures and absolutely hates it...FIND YOUR PASSION, major in it... and GO for it...don't be like my doctor friend who hates getting out of bed each day...

Hey, you may be right when courses are viewed solely from the lense of economic interest. However, remember that there are other deeper reasons why people pursue those courses that you mentioned despite knowing the ridiculous economic benefits.

I study photography. And guess what? It's not useless, because I study it in Germany, not the stupid US. So I study it for free and can attend filmschool after that. Or go into AI and help NGOs and governments, to find out, what trumpish fakenews are AI generated bullshit or just rightwinged idiocity. Ahhh, being European is so much better in nearly everything that comes with education and career... 😂😁

the lens of maximizing personal wealth is a good perspective, but i would not recommend anyone make their life decisions solely through finances. i know my anthropology degree will never lead to financial success; i have grown up financially comfortable, entered financial ruin in my 20’s, and self fulfillment has never tracked with my finances. my life became immeasurably more worth living when i dedicated my life to studying what i love, human culture and development throughout history and pre-history. if your particular interests are not in a field that universities will pay you to educate and research in, i hope you have (or find) something that suits your life as perfectly as anthropology suits mine.

Most of the subjects listed is truly of value but difficult to make a value addition to ones earning potential. Languages does not come to this scenario as a person truly conversant with a language can relate to many kinds of jobs, especially in tourism industry. Yes! You can learn a lang, being in the country where it spaks but the writing skills and comprehension need a lot of home work. Hope you would agree. Thank you for this program as it drives the prospective students to choose the best pathway ahead while selecting the field they like and where rhe employment is freely available for a creative person with that qualification. ❤

do you know the difference between religious studies and theological studies? preachers preach theology. religious studies is the actual study of religion, mythology, and folklore. it's important because you literally study manuscripts from the past. you also study ones that are recently found. considering the size of the earth, we're going to be finding new manuscripts for many many, years. you can't become a scholar on your own. maybe if you read a shitload of books but to analysis manuscripts? you need better training.

I think majors like gender studies are more relevant for people wanting to go on to further education and/or research professions. The study of the social dynamics of sex, gender, race, etc. contributes greatly to social research. Although, there is definitely an argument to be made that a BA in gender studies alone is basically useless.

Bachelor in biology, avoid at all cost, well if you want to go to med, ot, pa school, yeah it’s ok, but as me, being exhausted from all those pre med classes, and wanting to get a job to pay off loans, you can’t, basically bachelor in biology is nothing, it’s just piece of paper worth 40k and you can’t get a job that pays you not the minimum wage

I dont think any degree is completely worthless. I think you might as well major in something of greater value if you're already going, but it's better than nothing. A lot of jobs couldn't care less on what degree you have, just that you have one. Usually that's in the business's realm, but a corporate job is a good fallback if your intended study doesn't work. Though I still question the intelligence of someone with a gender studies or art history degree
