It strikes me that the Japanese aren't letting standards slip like other countries as the years go by. This attention to detail and care used to be the standard in western countries. It's the basics, nothing esoteric. But whereas the train systems and infrastructure elsewhere is breaking down, the Japanese don't seem to be content to allow such degradation to occur in their country. Even the concrete skeletons of the highway supports and bridges seem to gleam.

In the UK you get a tie and a shirt with the company branding.

Interesting, so the drivers wait for their train and the passengers wait in a neat line
The current Driver checks everything before switching, calls in probably to confirm the change and that everything is in order, packs their stuff and waits the same way as the Driver to take over was.
All with no chatter between the drivers, just check everything, take your stuff, confirm stuff, put how everything was before and wait for your next train with no delays.
Fascinating, as a European i'm sort of envious, everything looks so clean as well. The train stations in my areas are dirty, broken tiles, dusty, messy, rusty and rotting train cars and containers, graffiti.
It's horrendous, at least the trains are alright... sort of

I'm Japanese American and I'll let you know that NO WAY would I continue to point a camera at the Japanese train driver (engineer) if he looked my way. Second, there's a bigger possibility that the Japanese engineer would express displeasure with me, a Japanese American, than he would with other foreigners. Lol. Cheers

Looking at that tiny access door for the driver, I can imagine the job adverts state that applicants must be skinny and short. Large or tall need not apply.. you must conform!
