When the actors truly believe they REALLY ARE their characters and you forget that you’re just watching a movie. That’s magic.

The whole movie I was thinking "why is she doing this to him? Shes just being nasty for no reason." At the end I realized she kinda had to drag out the legal shit to get some actual middle ground instead of just what he wants.

What a fucking sad ass movie. Great acting, though, especially liking Ray Liotta's divorce lawyer character.

The LA family court judge in the movie (about 1 hr 30 mins into movie) is the guy from Drunk History who does story about Abe Lincoln being an awkward ape... ape man... awkward!

Wow. So in the film it shows how divorce is on the side of women. You didn't mention that. Bad review.

Stop trying to argue about who was in the right and in the wrong, this isn't what the movie intended for you to be thinking about

I thought Laura Dern was better in The Founder. Also, I thought it was sad that she was the one to get a statue because Driver and ScarJo are so incredible in this.

I love how the film was framed perfectly down the middle in most shots as sticking to the theme of splitting everything 50/50

I love all the subtle things like how the lawyers are having these heated talk and then suddenly talking about lunch and complimenting each other, but get all nasty again towards each other when they're settling. It really does make lawyers seem like psychopaths

I knew this won't be going to end happily and you know i hate when a movie had a tragic ending. Yes its a good movie with a great acting but i hate it. I'm a person he wants to cheer the love and be happy at the ending but this movie gave a sad phase for few days. Crazy

Yes cool movie and great at suggesting that divorce doesn´t all ways have to end ugly. But these kind of sepperations happen in a blue moon. I just don´t buy the calmness of the situation and it was so relieving when they both finally lost their shit and argued it was about time. Can´t hold your feeling in forever and if you do your lying. LOL

A bit late to the party, but here's my 2 cents:

I know we're supposed to be conflicted about these characters, but all I can see is a woman in a midlife crisis using her child as leverage to make her soon to be ex-husband miserable as revenge for "trapping" her (a feeling that she never expresses to him and admits she couldn't even recognize within herself until the divorce)

You wanna split up, leave with no prospects, and try to restart your career? Cool. Leave the kid out of it and stop acting like your situation isn't your own fault.

It is a terrible movie and a waste of time, dull and boring. Scarlett's acting is overrated, Adam Driver is meh. Their kid in the movie is so annoying, overall cringe movie 2/10

Frances Ha is my favorite Noah Baumbach film due to Greta Gerwig's performance, but Marriage Story is my second favorite Baumbach film due to its realism and acting.

This movie is incredible. It has incredible directing, acting, and shot composition. It has you hating characters in one scene and crying for them the next, it's impeccable. My only real problem was how much of a bummer this movie can be, which i get, it's nasty, but this movie was SOOOO upsetting at points. Honestly, the argument scene isn't even the best scene to me, that 'Being Alive' performance was the only point the movie got me crying. It showed just how much Charlie regrets everything that happened while also accepting that and really letting him move on, he'll always love his son, and he'll always love Nicole, but it comes down to a point where it's just not sustainable anymore. Great Movie, not one of my favorites per se but its absolutely an A+.

This film depicts the raw ability for two people to mitigate the emotional impact on their son. I wish EVERY parent did this during a divorce. Mine were spiteful and decietful to each other, with no regard for discretion about it. I grew up to be a terrible person because of it. But at least I won't be a terrible person who suffers the same flaws.

This film is a portrait of how two people know they are going to fail, but want to do it as gracefully as possible, for the sake of their child. That is something more couples need to emulate and realize upon raising a child. That should be the paramount priority, no matter what.
