The easiest way I have found to go unaligned Japan is to build up until commie China provokes you. Then rush down China and Mao. They still have army corruption and you don't get the Marco polo debufs so it's an easy clap.

Then imediately focus on the Soviet Union. They will still have tons of debufs from purges. Mongolia and Tanu Tuva have a supply hub in their capitals that can easily be plugged into your supply network so you can push through them to get to the siberian railway. If you cut it off and take Vladivostok all the USSR army in the East will lose supply. Mop up their army and push west along the railway. You can generally ignore the Siberian territory to the north since there's no supply there and having a long front line makes the AI do stupid stuff anyways. Then push towards Stalingrad.

As someone who plays on ahistorical ai, this is probably the Japan path I see the most and without a doubt the most disappointing, cuz so little changes.

Like, I want to see Japan do the Asian Nato or the equally laughably unrealistic communist path.

Well I like to play japan as an Evil Neutral non-aligned, but after choosing the path I prepare a declaration of war against usa or Uk to get more overpowered and later declared on anyone since world tension is high enough to conquer anyone

This focus path becomes 100% useless the moment you lose the attack bonus on china, the moment they break your non-aggresion pact for no reason and the moment you realise you can stay fascist and justify on the ussr.
