I gave up on the Nvidia shield and got my self a small computer instead since most of apps on android kinda lost their touch since Android 11 released and most apps don't have access for usb or sd card

Those are nice additions. The main thing I want fixed is universal controller rumble support through GeForce now. I used to be a big advocate for GeForce now and I bought a shield just to play in 4K. But I would also like to use a great controller with rumble support. I feel like half of the experience is missing and it made me just buy a ps5 instead. 😢

I'm a relatively simple guy. Give me Wi-Fi 7, a 2.5 gb lan port, 6GB of ram, 256 GB of fast storage and 8k with a great processor that can handle it with ease for years to come. Willing to spend up to $500 currently have 2 apple 4k TV for my wife and was looking to get a sheild TV for myself but i think ill wait till next year. If Nvidia dont drop and have any news by summer ill prolly just pick up another apple TV then, or prolly get a mac mini.

Trash. 6 months with the Shield. "Shield" stands for "SHIELDing the rest of your televisions HDMI ports from functioning." When the Shield is plugged in the HDMI ports will not switch to any other port. I go to my XBox S? The Shield ghosts the XBox until I get the Shield. Period. No other HDMI ports work unless I unplug the Shield. And then, after taking the Shield out of the mix, I have to reset my television so that the HDMI ports function again. I have had wifi literally plugged into the Shield and the Shield drops the signal. Everything around the Shield picks up the wifi just fine. I have done all of the little online "tricks" to make this thing work as advertised, and for the price I shouldn't have had to try all of these "tricks". Nada. I unplugged Shield, plugged in my Roku, which works just fine, and have called it a loss. The longer I have had Shield, the more I dislike it. What a massive disappointment. Taking the "L" and moving on. Lesson learned.

I hope a new shield comes out soon and I would replace all mine with glee. I would love to see Nvidia break away from the Google relations because it is not needed. I have all the Google background processes and services turn off on all my Shields and even the older versions are a streaming BEASTS!
Great Video ❤

Seeing as the shield runs the same chips as the nintendo switch, but at a higher frequency, maybe by the time the switch 2 gets announced, we will see the new shield as well. I agree with everything you said. 8gb or more ram, new gen tegra SOC, user expandable SSD...and the ability to run pretty much every emulator upscaled..Can't wait!

8k is forever overkill and just a bandwidth/resource hog.

The next Shield TV should provide upgrade paths. M.2 ssd for instance. Release the new Shield with a good eMMC internal storage AND an m.2 slot for the upgrade path to an actual NVME ssd drive. AND a cpu that can actually leverage the full performance capability of the NVME transport protocol and all of it's features.

That would be significant for those of us who have NAS storage of movies and other video's since that will allow seeking through 4k or HD video to appear visually fluid instead of choppy where you can't tell how fast the seeking is going. Slick seeking like the old VHS tapes back in the 90's. The VCR's with the 19 micron heads. Seeking through video with a seamless fluid animation of rewind/fast-forward hardly exists anymore. The technology of digital video playback actually regressed in that regard. SOMEBODY needs to bring it back!

Leave that Netflix button alone, please Nvidia. The features I would like to see are 1) a built-in web server to transfer of files without any headache from the shield to PC or mobile, and vice versa. 2) Configuration of all shield settings via PC by FTP server. 3) Although the shape of the current Shield is futuristic, it is a pain to place it in a cabinet full of other conventionally shaped devices. 4) RF and BT remote control.

For me, ditch the 2 models, 1, pro model is enough (as ppl looking for cheap android tv have lots of options). 2.5gig network, upgraded ram, storage, wifi and codec support like av1. But the most important feature is a much improved upscaling like the one on 4000 series Nvidia GeForce cards.

Jessie I honestly think you should stop thinking about the shield now, I've been told from a good source that they won't be renewing the shield lineup, there concentration is now on AI. Just get a formula Z11 pro max

I think there is not a very big market for external TV boxes now. Amazon, Google maybe Apple are such big players for the rest of the non „smart TV‘s“. To less selling. Not concentrating on tech enthusiasts in this case. Geforce Now with 4K now available on LG TV‘ for 2023 and Samsung TV’s and keep going. Would like to see a new version. But I guess it will not come.

I'm thinking about getting the Nivida Shield to replace our aging 4K Amazon TV Fire. Glad I saw this video so going to wait a bit for the new version of the shield to be released.

I don't know about Nvidia but there's a rumor that Google will have a new, more powerful Chromecast with GoogleTV device this year.

A new Shield would need WiFi 6E or 7. A 5GB or 2.5GB Ethernet port is enough. A new slim case design, no more coil whine from the PSU, HDMI 2.1, VRR support, 120HZ support, 4K is enough but maybe 8K support. Storage on board if 64GB upgradable via SD cards or external hard drives. USB C ports. And a chip based on their Tegra Jetson chip. 4GB Ram. And it keeps the ability to play those games they sold to run natively on the Shield TV such as Half Life 2, also a new interface design for GeForce Now. Price no more then 250.

Nope, it's been discussed a LOT now and the general consensus seems to be no new Shield is coming. They have had several new Tegra chips they could have used for a new updated model. Apple and Amazon have taken over the high end market now for the majority.
I'd love to see a new Shield though.
