SPECIAL Stats Tier List - Fallout New Vegas

TBH I just put my Charisma to 10 on my latest FNV playthorugh because I always thought it affected Speech... lol.

I personally prefer a huge Strenght, Endurance and Inteligence build while sacrificing my perception, charisma and agility.

Perception seems to have a decent number of skills checks related to it, though I do agree it's a weak stat overall. Would be really nice if it also affected your accuracy in VATS.

Luck in New Vegas (and 3 even) was completely broken. Hell, it's broken in 4. Luck is just all around a great stat since it's what gives you good criticals, fills your crit meter and makes your loot chances for rare items better. And again, in New Vegas Luck was broken since your gambling chances of winning (ESPECIALLY in blackjack) was just insane. Anyone whose done the challenge where you get kicked out of every casino on the strip knows if you have 10 luck it'll be a literal breeze! You'll only have to do maybe 3-5 reloads if you lose too many hands so yeah... luck is broken just like Agility.

Agility is the second most broken stat since it gives you AP points for VATS. Not much else to say besides doing a 10 Luck 10 Agility build means you can spam VATS and hit body parts with 33% or lower AND STILL land your shots. I've done this plenty of times in 3, NV and 4. Aim at the head in VATS even if it's super low chance to hit, hit the head, then repeat until dead. If you have 10 Luck, 10 Agility and like even 5 perception then you're golden!

Vegas I always make sure I have at least (lucky) 7 points in luck to clear the casinos and get reliable crits.

My favorite build is to run Charisma and Luck down to 1 each and build from there.

for me high perception just messes up with my gameplay because I have ED-E on most of the time and being able to detect enemies from a thousand miles away while I can't even see them through a sniper scope messes up with my own perception

For the weapons' strength requirement, there is actually a perk that lowers it by 2. Therefore, I do not tend to have my character's strength higher than 6. Also, power armor increases strength by 1-2 which is also pretty nice, negating according to me the need for a very high strength.

I think the biggest reason perception is misunderstood is because the vigor machine at the start of the game says it affects weapon accuracy, which is false both in and out of vats in nv. Good to see somebody spreading the truth, only reason to take perception is for perks

I put all my points into luck on NV and 4. I’ve tinkered with other builds but for some reason it feels like luck builds are very powerful. I never find myself wishing I hadn’t gone that route later in the game.

In New Vegas there are a few situations where you can use luck to solve difficult problems. The characters reactions are funny too.

Strength is always an A tier. Carry weight alone makes strength super useful. I like to carry around different outfits for boost to certain stats or attributes. And I carry at least 8 weapons and frags and mines. Add on all the stuff I'm gonna pick up along the way, and strength becomes super important

8/1/9/1/6/7/8 for the best SPECIAL, unless you need Better Criticals in which case, 8/5/9/1/2/7/8. I think Strength is A-tier, and Luck is S-tier, but besides that I agree with this whole tier list.

For Traits, I pick Skilled (x2 exploit) and Logan's Loophole, and I swap them with Fast Shot and Built to Destroy with the OWB Auto-Sink.

Also, all builds either lead to Doom Slayer, or Fallout: New Vegas: Revengeance after about a thousand playthroughs. Legate Lanius is basically an Iron Age Sundowner when I really think about it. You can also easily kill Lanius with the fully modded Katana and every known chem in the Mojave while wearing the Chinese Stealth Armor and a Desperado Hat.

Charisma is S tier because when you activate the Vigor Tester you get 4 free points to put into any SPECIAL stat

One thing about voracious reader is combined with comprehension it allows you to make your own true police storie magazines, which gives you 10% crit that is affected by multipliers. Killer perks for a crit build

Weird take but I put all my stats accordingly to how I think I am or would be in the situation the fallout games take place.. idk might be stupid but it gives me more realism 😂😂

Charisma at the lowest tier really hurts my soul, if you think, you can handle many situations with pure charisma. For me personally it's way more useful than Perception, Luck or Agility for example.

I really like your tier list. I havnt had hardly any disagreements with the placements. If anything ive reevaluated alot my my playthroughs and thought huh i would of had a much easier time if i picked this perk instead

I won't argue that luck is the best stat, but I feel high luck is an easy way to explain why the player character survived the 9mm faceoff.

Also being some lucky asshole who survives all encounters because just lady luck loves you feels very Vegas for me and is the main reason I find myself going high luck 9 times out of 10.

I imagine that Cainos will put a bounty on your head if you have Luck stat of 10.

Luck is the secretly best skill in New Vegas

typically plays builds with high charisma and feels attacked.

I think the only fallout game were charisma is kind of good is Fallout 4. Because in the other games you can just skill speech to 100 and don't need Charisma at all. In Fo4 these is no speech skill, only Charisma

I might base my SPECIAL off of my IRL attributes rather than worrying about min-maxing lol but this video was really helpful nonetheless

I can get by with a charisma of 1 in NV. My most important are at least 8 in intelligence for more skill points when leveling up, and then having at least 6 in agility and perception for the sniper and better criticals perks for my vats build.

I find STR 3 to be plenty, and can be boosted to 6 permanently, paired with the weapon handling perk and power armor, a starting 3 STR courior can handle all weapons fine by mid/late game

High perception is good for characters that move in sneak mode most of the time. It prevents most bad surprises (like enemies behind a corner).

Charisma in D really doesn't do justice to how many situations speech can get you out if in the game, and how strong your companions can get, to say nothing of the rp element

FNV is the game where intelligence is the most balanced among the others fallout

Intelligence does determine the number of skill points you get in Fallout 4. I've played through it multiple times with multiple different characters, some with low intelligence and some with high intelligence and higher intelligence will for sure increase your overall XP gain. It actually makes a substantial difference.

Charisma matters way more in hardcore mode

luck is s+, just put 9 points on it
