Sweet ride.. nice workmanship. You guys in America have such luck having so many old school cars to choose from at a decent price
ОтветитьIf only we had as much choice for old school cars and decent prices, people here want to much money for cars that need at least $20,000 put into them. I've got an Australian old school HQ Holden Ute running a baby V8 (253). All original, but someone changed the front end to a HJ Holden front end so I've got to try and source a complete HQ front end, but people want way to much money for their second hand parts, can buy new guards and f ont nose cones etc brand new from rare spares for the same price these people are asking for old rusted and dented guards. Ridiculous here, I would love to live in America, watch some shows on TV about cars they pick up for cheap from junk yards and do up, unbelievable to see a beautiful old car come back to life, if my back was in better shape I'd love to move there and do the same thing, live on a shed and work on fixing up and bringing back to life old school cars, nice job on yours. Maybe one day I'll afford to chuck a big block or small block chev into my car.
ОтветитьYou think you can help me. 1975 Pontiac Catalina 400. Stock it had a 2jet Rochester carb. Swapped to 77 Firebird 4 barrel intake and Holley 4106. Keep in mind the car sit for 10 years I changed the plug's and wire's rebuilt the distributor replaced battery and starter. I drove the car stock after getting it running and kinks out I put about 1000 miles on it it's at 47.300 miles now. After the rebuilding of intake and new carburetor it backfires when stepping on the pedal I checked all vacuum's extra precaution I use hose clamps. It poppes from exhaust as well but it has stock pipes single. That's my next step is duels for better performance. Where should I start at first removing exhaust it dose have some small pin hole's in it from sitting 10 years ? Checking the plug's? Im 100% certain they're gapped at 35 thousands cause I gapped them and checked all 8 twice before putting them in. Old cars I know the timing must be correct in order for it to run in sequence with the cam and fuel. Can you give me some pointers. It puzzles me a new carb freash out the box pre set backfires when I step in it and dies. Throttle linkage vacuum's and base gaskets are correct. Not much to a carburetor. Thanks for any help you can give me.
ОтветитьWhew, glad I watched this....before I started tearing the Carb apart (1980 MGB).
Wouldn't you know, the ceramic insulator on plug4 slipped over the electrode.
Replace all 4 sparks with NGK ......instantly runs awesome.
Aloha!!
Your a dumb ass man.. should have caught that with the vacuum gauge... all those gauges YOU don't eeven know what they are ..and how to utilize them .
ОтветитьWhat a moron :) It's always the stupid, glaring obvious things that bite you in the butt. Wired my speed sensor backwards and my transmission wouldn't shift. Chased that problem for days. Such a relief to find it was something so simple.
Ответитьbad ass motor!
Ответитьha did to my moms van few years ago knew as soon as i started
ОтветитьWhy all these hate comments
ОтветитьI hope that's all that's wrong with mine
ОтветитьI hope that's all that's wrong with mine
ОтветитьHappened to me bro, twice in the same month. Had a 75' Chevy truck with a 350, back fired so bad, neighbors thought it was a gunshot. And my other chevy truck, 1976 with a 454, SAME THING! Was pissing me off for days, couldn't figure it out. Then I saw your video and it made me take a look, thinking for sure it was something else... sure enough, that was it.
So thanks man.
My F250 1976ford is doing the same exact thing and now I'm stranded it's probably a plug . . My buddy showing up with tools my make sure gas is coming into the carb first glad I ran across your video I wasn't thinking about that one I'll let you know thanks bro
ОтветитьBy the way that's one bad ass set up you got there kid
ОтветитьSweet Mustang, I love the carb, I wish I had a car that was pre-EFI, I can't do much without a computer to figure out what's wrong with these cars that have Electronic Fuel Infection.
ОтветитьI have the same car with the 351c...same prob...new plugs tomorrow !!!
ОтветитьI accidentally dropped a plug once and didn't recheck the gap, same thing happened to me.
ОтветитьDude your engine bay is the kind of engine bay I want to touch myself to like holy shit that’s clean as fuck
ОтветитьI have a 383 stroker in my Camaro ss and it backfires on me everytime 2nd gear at 2250 rpms and I’m not sure what it is anyone got any suggestions
ОтветитьCheck the spark plugs and make sure that the timing belt is aligned
ОтветитьIt sounded like it barely spun and holy shit that looked slow..350hp what at the crank in a 4klbs car..lmao..my 02 wrx is 430to all 4 wheels and i bet you spent more on your engine and ignition system than i bought and built my 2900lb awd 430awhp 416trq wrx
ОтветитьI have a 79 360 with a 4bbl, just hooked up all the new vacuum lines but now backfires. I'll check the plugs.
ОтветитьSpark plug is the result.. not cause. So you must find the cause. I think your real main problem is high fuel pressure.. and may be oil pressure. Check carb item number. Then find the required fuel pressure.. that is the key for solution.
Ответитьwhat a lucky guy !!
ОтветитьBeautiful engine bay !
ОтветитьIs that a 71mustang , it was my first car
ОтветитьWhy does all v ford engines got a "ticktickticktick" sound
ОтветитьWasn't sure if my truck needed some new spark plugs or it was the fuel pump. It was doing this before I took a long distance trip 2 years ago. And it was my #6 I had replaced. But after watching another video and this one. This pretty much confirms that this could be it. But to be sure, I'm going to Oriely's to use a code reader... Cool car, good video. And way to go on not driving like a prick in your neighborhood. 😄👍
ОтветитьHow many fuel gauges do you need?
ОтветитьAwesome but im a newbie trying to learn. Wish you would have explained more about 0 gap or showed the correct spark plug. Still great content
Ответитьwhere can u find how much the gap is supposed to be for your specific vehicle
ОтветитьHow much do you have invested on that motor.. you can tell us..
ОтветитьSounds like a tick still though...
ОтветитьI like the sound. What exhaust system are you using?
ОтветитьI know this is a very old video but you didn’t have any lockdown. Probably never hooked the rod back up after intake swap
ОтветитьMy F-600s carb backfire issue was because the spring that pulls the throttle back went bad and wasn’t pulling it back all the way. It was a slow starter, ran rough, sounded like it had a fat cam when it didn’t, and was choppy. It only began to backfire when it got cold, but it was bad. Finally, I decided to try and move it back. It did about an inch or so, and started up like it was new. And ran extremely smooth.
ОтветитьThank you buddy and that's a beautiful car
Ответитьdo you have 3 fuel pressure gauges and 2 regulators?
Ответитьnice Car
ОтветитьDude my plugs are brand new less than 700 miles on it and it started to do it today after I accidentally ran it out of gas
ОтветитьMan do I appreciate this video. Put new plugs in a ‘70 Mustang I’m rebuilding and it fired right up, but later started popping and backfiring like popcorn on a hot stove. Going to pull all the new plugs and check gaps again.
ОтветитьSometimes you don't think about it the most easiest.
ОтветитьAre you in florida?
Ответитьthe gap looks too tight.
ОтветитьBehind the dash there is what between the radio and the firewall is it electric motor that looks like a fan which harnesses Electric and from the ground and the air due to the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor on the front bumper look behind the radio there's a tube that drips water that is connected to the wrong place on the turbo which is sucking water into the engine don't touch my vehicles if you don't understand what the most advanced technology you'll pass out when you put on the VR gear at f**** a thousand miles an hour you'll only ever see six😢 Blue Angel planes the 7th is a vehicle that is for who who can't depend on anybody to protect him but himself because people will always say Stone him
Ответить😮 when that is set proper you should be able to do 120 before you even hit second gear
ОтветитьWhat about a shut off back fire
ОтветитьWhat if you do new plugs and you have not dropped them at all and not messed up the gap but it still does the popping after a full tune up,cap rotor, wires, and pickup coil
Ответитьnice video. Mines only backfires on cold start , choke on at high idle. Any suggestions? Thank you
ОтветитьWow man i love you car😮
