PS1 | 20 Games That Stood The Test of Time

I loved a ton of these. One i was waiting on was Jet Moto.

Agile Warrior was another really fun action packed flight Sim type game like ace combat or air combat if you’re talking about the first one?!

Agile warrior let you do a lot of things that you couldn’t do in ace combat.. and it had more air to ground missions!

But it’s a really good early 96-97 PS1 Game!

A lot of y’all will hate me for this but I don’t care:

Final Fantasy VII Is the only game that I honestly feel is overrated.. I get why it holds such a special place in many RPG fans hearts.. but I feel like when you compare it to games like metal gear solid which had fully voiced characters, final fantasy seven kind of just comes off as OK at best? I liked Xenogears better anyways..

But to this day I’ve never been able to understand what is so special about Final Fantasy VII??

I’ve even tried to get into it and beat it myself but I always end up getting bored with it..

Japanese developers have always given us expansive RPG, but they’ve always been careful with just how much money they invest into the budget for an example not giving all of the characters voice actors so that you don’t have to constantly read what they are saying but you can instead listen to what they are saying like you do in games like the Witcher three today?!? This is another reason the newest legend of Zelda game does not really matter to me because it feels like a game that is stuck between the way games were made in the 90s and the way games are made today with only the main characters having voiced dialogue and the rest, requiring you to read what they say?!?!

It just comes off as cheap.. I can understand why Final Fantasy seven doesn’t have voice dialogue, but all games nowadays if it’s an RPG game should have it-

Beating driver was so difficult when you made it to that last mission!!!

I’m sure many of you thought it was impossible and gave up more than a few times just like me???

But if you persevered, you realized that you had to juke, duck, dodge dive and dodge… making use of every turn down a new street all the way to your objective to escape those crazy agents in the black cars!!!

I got a PlayStation for Christmas when I was 11 years old in 1995-96!

We got Tekken, ridge racer, destruction derby, jumping flash, twisted metal and Street fighter the movie the game!!

I could not be peeled away from destruction derby because nothing like it had ever been seen and it was so fun!! But twisted metal became a returning favorite for me and all of my friends at the time!

Every other major release on this list, I got at the time of its release with Gran Turismo one when I was 13 to 14 and Gran Turismo two when I was 15 and metal gear solid when I was about 15 also and all of these games hold a special place in my heart!

I have to say that some of the best memories were of the total amazement of Gran Turismo, having never seen nothing like that game and then the anticipation leading up to the second one! And then of course resident evil and then the amazing unforgettable resident evil 2 but it wasn’t until playing metal gear solid for the first time that I truly experienced what an cinematic action stealth masterpiece was, and it totally set the standard for what an action game with Hollywood level or voice acting and cinematics should be moving forward!!

Gran Turismo 2 is a game I never get tired of playing. It's my favorite racing game of all time. And I love the modern Forza and GT games

Great list! Maybe due to growing up with the start of video/arcade games, a lot of these still look impressive to me. Love Toca, I seem to recall you could have in-car view, it felt incredibly realistic. They refused to compromise so you'd get some mad slowdown at a tight bend with 8 million cars, but it didn't matter. The sounds as well (plus music by EZ Rollers!). Silent Hill and Resi were epic. Wipeout was so classy. Great memories.

The PS1 games, being restricted with hardware, really pushed the game design to be on spot, without redundant stuff. You say 20 games with honorable mentions, man, I am not sure will a video with 300 entries be sufficient to collect all PS1 games that had stood the test of time.

And that, boys and girls, is why those of us over 40 didn't listen to C&VG past the mega-drive era. Games getting 100% and quake got a port to the N64 rendering that tidbit rather pointless. Neither port was goldeneye or perfect dark. Ps1 had better to offer.

The 2d games have aged well

Lot of driving games on this list lol. I think Spyro holds up really well. There's a certain type of graphical style that only the PS1 has. Those games still look and play well today. I would also say Final Fantasy Tactics and Parappa the Rapper are still fun and playable today. I'd also throw in Point Blank, but you need a CRT and Guncon to play that one.

I can play Dino Crisis 2 over and over. They broke away from slow pace of the first game and added some arcade action to the sequel. Great story too.

Finally someone putting colin McRae and toca touring cars in. Too many people today choice games just for the price they are now, those two games are two of the best and still cost you a tiver

Final Fantasy Tactics, Street Fighter Alpha 3, PaRappa the Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy, Tomb Raider & MLB The Show 2000.

All these games are available in emulators, you can even download them in your phone

I know this is your list (not mine, obviously), but knowing that you guys are also very fond of football (I'm Brazilian), I was hoping to see a game in this category (Pro Evolution Soccer 2, for example). But, of course, I respect your list.

WORST thing about the game Driver... completing a slew of car trick BEFORE you can even play a second of the game... if you can't do it YOU CAN'T PLAY the game!!

It's funny, I love replaying Silent Hill, but I can not replay Resident Evil 2, the controls are so hard to deal with.

You were right when you said many people bought a Playstation console because RE2 and I was one of them. I bought it because of RE2 but I stayed because of SOTN, absolute piece of art. You forgot a couple of gems like Soul Reaver, how dare you? LOL!
