The music in this game was such a bop though. Like bro, that weird pan flute and shit at the end? Amazing. lol
This is one of those games that like I knew was bad even as a small child, but yet I loved in spite of that. I even remember playing it SOOOO many times that I once bragged to a friend I could beat it in an afternoon and then proceeded to do that, which was completely unnecessary because it's 1) not impressive and 2) I don't think they pressed me on it considering they also owned the game!
And yet, despite this literally being one of the worst games I have ever played, hearing those old tunes again really just made me relive my entire childhood in the blink of an eye.

This game is ridiculous. I hacked my exp points gained to level up in one battle cause the game was such shit

It will tickle you to know that yes, this and Budokai 1 WERE my introductions to Dragon Ball Z. The only other thing I had seen prior were a few episodes of the Namek saga out of context.

This was one of my first GBA games. I remember grinding for hours early on because I thought leveling up would make the game much easier. I was very wrong but eventually beat this mess of a game.

I use to play this game a lot as a kid, and I found an exploit that makes almost all the bosses easy as hell.

What you do is that you get their sprite to stop moving, then you blast them in the legs with the regular ki blast and let them walk over to you, if you do it right, the boss will stop right in front of you and will let you punch them to death.

The only boss that this exploit doesn't work with is Vegeta.

I beat this as a kid then sold it off for a other gane, and I swore i remembered it being good for 2yrs... Then i bought the 1&2 combo and had a real legacy game to compare it to... I didn't even waste my time grinding through all the snakes and wolves ever again 😭😂

I don't remember the hitboxes being bad
I do remember using ki attacks only
I do remmeber kiting and just runnign for the ki to charge

Thisgame took me 3 days to beat: of which half of that was looking for the third orb BEHIND A SECRET WALL!

I played legacy of Goku 2 and Buu fury way before I played the first one, and the first time I tried it, it was terrible. The difficulty is actually crazy 😂. Second playthrough i manage to won the game somehow. Third playthrough might suck who knows lol

The mystery isn't how this game was so bad, it's legit how they springboarded off this to make 2 absolutely stellar sequels

I remember a bug where if you got hit with a ki attack while flying you would "fly" over all attacks

The last time I played this game, I grinded to max level on the first big dino. It took forever, but after enough time I started one-shotting it with punches and regular ki blasts, so I guess some stats do go up, but health and energy don't? Honestly I never experimented too much with it as a kid, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case 😂

Damn....I remember this........I feel the pain all over again lmao. This also makes me realize after playing PC-88/98 games.....this game has HORRIBLE hitboxes compared to games from the 80s lmao

I really liked the trilogy

the legacy of goku 2 was one of my favorite games to play growing up... I later thought, why not try the first one, its probably great... I was sorely mistaken

I think this game does not deserve harsh criticism, I think context is important, to me this game is special, when I was a kid there was not easy acesss to the internet ever, the only way to see dragon ball was hoping it would be on after school and for most of my childhood it just played the buy saga on repeat, owning this game allowed me to be in the subs universe to use my imagination and see the story and characters, the music was also great, I get it’s not a perfect techincal game, but I imagine that they didn’t have the most money to make this game and I’m thankful it was made, we’re spoiled now and kids can have instant access to any media but as a child in the early 2000s this game let me escape reality for a little and feel closer to my favorite characters

I actually started playing Legacy of Goku 2 a couple days ago, and I don’t know if it’s the Emulator making it look better. But the beginning video looks… scarcely good besides one or two scenes. I wanna keep playing it just to see how it fairs, but just from the hour I played, the quality is already a step up from the first game. Kinda remarkable in that sense.

I got to mention that your level difference does matter in the freeza fight. And it's a good bit. I started one spot and literally punched freezer for over 30 minutes on level one. Where is with normal to Max level it was very quick like he said.

Yeah the two sequels to this game are great but that first one man is it not good.

Your attack power is invisible and you do get stronger as you train and level up, but it's hard to tell because of the hit box system. There's an audio cue signifying if you landed a real hit or not. This applies for all attacks. Weak sounds indicate blocked damage, strong sounds indicates inflicted damage. The problem is that there's a cool down time that last for about 3 seconds before you or the CPU can land inflicted damage again. This is why the solar flare comes in handy because it helps you avoid the enemy as you wait for your cool down to wear off. Unfortunately there's no in game tutorial that explains the combat system at all.
