I see you cropped your photo before setting up the aspect ratio. Is that ok to do? Should I look for a certain mpx? Sorry but I have some photos that would be better cropped and then set a the ratio. I want good quality prints. Thank you for all your insight. Great video!

Disappointed that you didn't show us how to make our own prints from Lightroom. I just received the Epson p900, and I don't need Bayphoto anymore!

One thing I never see addressed is including a white border on a print. I’m wondering if you can please discuss that in a video please. Particularly if/how it affects the size of the print and what’s included/excluded from the actual picture when a border is added. Also, an easy way to do it.

Great video and explanations. One question I have is exposing for print. I understand and it makes sense that an image edited in Lightroom or any other application, is backlit by one's monitor and that when it's printed it might be too dark because the print lacks the backlight help from the monitor. Do you have a video or can help explain how you edit your images as far as exposure is concerned, for printing versus web posting? I'm eager to print some images but want to get it right before getting back an image I'm disappointed with because it's too dark. Thanks in advance for your help and advice. Cheers!

Hey ive never actually printed any of my phots before but you can go into lightroom and on the top left hand bar go to the Photo Tab -> Enhance -> Super Resolution this will quadruple your images megapixels for example my 12mp image goes to 48 mp (:

Great info and timely.
Question: I need to resize an 11X17 chart to be enlarged to fit on a foam core board that is 41" x 53"...Not sure if I can just resize (with those dimensions) in the Lightroom Export module under Image Resizing where you can just type in the dimensions you want. I could use your input. Thanks as always...

Hello PhotoRec TV, I wonder can you help me? I shoot on a Canon 5D3 and process my images in Classic Lightroom. I try not to use too much contrast; sharpening; or clarity so as not to introduce any halos. Recently, friends and family have been asking for prints but when they come back from the professional printers they are a little soft, which for me spoils the print. I must confess that I forgot to do any mask sharpening in Lightroom, could this be why my prints are soft when they return home to me? I am at a loss of what to do. Can you help me, please???

This was superb, covered everything that missing from other videos. So well explained. Just started to send to professional printers, kinda worked my way through the method. Came across yours , one of the best , " aint hard when you know how" now I know how. You got my thumbs up. Thanks for posting.

Great video. I have the aspect ratios down, but I never even thought of creating export presets. A timesaver there and worth the time to watch. I'm still trying to determine what is currently the preferred aspect ratios and print sizes for selling wall size. For that matter what about borders to allow for matting and signing. Do they even still do the gallery style of a slightly larger border at the bottom than the rest. Or are borders now passé even for gallery art? I live in rural, Southwest Texas and can't get to the big urbans to even visit a real gallery for various reasons.

I have to say you sound and even slightly look like you could be Matthew McConaughey's brother.

I have been happy with Bay Photo for many years. If I want to make a giant print, larger than the recommended minimum size, should I export from Lightroom to upsample to the desired pixel dimensions?

Toby - why did you select sRGB for printing and not Adobe RGB or Prophoto RGB? Good info for printing from a vendor.

There's a lot to be said for using Topaz products when printing large. Their DeNoise AI and Gigapixel AI are phenomenal - and there are free, feature complete test versions.

Thanks Toby. I usually have my prints done through a local photography shop. In the past, I've left the quality up to them until I realized I didn't like what I was getting. So, I approached them regarding their print process. This seemed to wake them up to the fact that someone in the chain was not putting forth their best work. When you first start printing your photos you can lack the confidence to ask the right questions. This tutorial will definitely help new photographers ask the right questions.

Good stuff. I print through our local camera shop a lot but often for friends and family at smaller sizes like 8x10, I just send to the local Walgreens or Costco. Not high art but darn good and super fast.

Great video!

I am concerned about the backlighting from the monitor, do you have to do certain adjustments in terms of brightness, contrast, etc to get the look one sees on the monitor?

Also, does it matter if the monitor is calibrated or not, since it is being sent to a third party. In other words, does the print lab do their own adjustments to get the look of the file sent to them?
