out at my boat I tried T-Mobile's newest 'home' wifi network router(connects to their cell towers, with another account with them like your phone) it is not made to be mobile like a 'hot spot'/sim card, but it did work for both a 2.5 Ghz and 5 Ghz wifi network(which is not the same as 2/3/4/5 G cell tower signal) but the problem is my boat is on a lake, which often are lower elevation plus can be surrounded by cliffs or hills - so hard to get a cell tower signal - thus if your phone doesn't work well, these things aren't going to do much better, like a straight upward satellite connection would(StarLink) but heck, I use my boat to get away from the Internet and 'doom scrolling' anyway haha
ОтветитьIf you want to get more range, you could also add external antennas mounted to the outside of the boat.
ОтветитьG'day Doug,
The techo stuff was pretty cool..
But i really dig on that positive message you keep putting out there for the faithful.
How mega cool it would be if we all just love our neighbours, and have respect for ourselves & others .
Respect ....!
that thing has more antennas then nasa
ОтветитьI see the modem that wofi I see it as a USB 3 can you hook a hard drive I bet you could do that for a sharing documents and video tutorials for Seeker
ОтветитьI bet that if you give the same name to 2G and 5G, devices know how to select the best automatically.
ОтветитьDoug, I know your fans tend to be good people, but FYI, you showed all the information someone would need to really do some damage to your network. At least tell me you didn't actually make your root password "sailboat"?
ОтветитьHow do you keep the 12v power supply stable? Usually these electronics are sensitive to voltage swings and need a constant voltage.
Ответитьdoug's DBA past is shining through in this one
ОтветитьEhh...I just want to sit outside listening to the fish singing and watch the birds swim by...all this simple complicated stuff is overwhelming.
ОтветитьYou are so clever Doug it would take me forever to sort out well done, the more I see the more I love this channel.
ОтветитьI love how this boat is both a simple homemade contraption but also a highly sophisticated and advanced gadget all at the same time.
ОтветитьThe “V” shape of the bow may concentrate the signal.
ОтветитьHi How very interesting... I often wondered what bridging actually meant .. you learn something new everyday .... Cheers
ОтветитьNot bad, for a data Admin. Great product but now mofi is currently unavailable on amazon
ОтветитьI'm not a thief but I've been on your boat for 11years I think I know my way around 😅
ОтветитьMeh, I still think you should get some pigeons.
ОтветитьNice connection 😊
ОтветитьYour way to smart for me Doug bless you
ОтветитьYour router antennas should be aligned for either horizontal or vertical polarity. The idea is to match an antenna in polarity to the other antennas to which it is intended to connect in order to enjoy the greatest signal strength. Arranging the antennas at some other angle may be pleasing to the eye but at some distance it will result in a loss of reliable signal. In some instances that might not even matter but in others it might be mission critical.
Viewers should not confuse the 2G / 4G references in this video to the significance of those numbers in cell phone service. You can see on one of the setup screens the 2 gigahertz and 4 gigahertz Wi-Fi bands.
Avoid the 2 gigahertz band when you have the option. It is more likely to receive interference from things like pesky microwave ovens.
How do you distribute Wi-Fi shipboard? Look into "leaky coax".
How do you extend Wi-Fi range a distance off the boat or improve the range from which you can bridge a Wi-Fi signal? Consider a Wi-Fi antenna at the masthead or other prominence.
How did you do in the storm? We are up in largo just north of st Pete.
ОтветитьEvery time you hold that router, I think of Edward Scissorhands.
Ответитьthe mofi looks like it should be called the tumor maker 5000.😂
ОтветитьI see a cancer case from EMR in your future.
ОтветитьI live in an RV. I have Starlink as well. This router is nice because I have a spot in my RV where antenna's from the roof and power (not sure it's the same voltage/amps) comes in. Would be nice to pop this in there and have a backup cell internet. Nice information. :D
ОтветитьWhat a thoughtful feature a switch to turn off the LED. So many devices blink at you and light up the room for no reason.
ОтветитьYou could do almost the same with a 30€ travel router with minimal more thinkering.
But still looks like a interesting device to thinker with. I think I even saw, that its running opnwrt in the back, which would be great for thinkerer like me, but sadly, its not available in Germany
video ideas---
1-Deck tour
2-in side tour
3-below bilge/engine room
4-how systems have been working, things you want to change, batteries/solar and genset usage
5-overall technical tour (1 or 2 parts)
6-start to finish with the transfer case ( your thoughts on how things could change and overall prospective of the situation)
Doug, you are a wealth of information and I thank you. I sure hope Mofi compensated you. Great presentation!
ОтветитьCan you do a BIOS video next ?
ОтветитьMoFi ? How about 'Spiny Lobster'. Cheers, Mark
ОтветитьWhich WIFI channel should be used when on a Beam Reach?
ОтветитьSounds great. Just hope you aren’t getting microwaved in the forward berth with the 5 g😅.
ОтветитьThe SIM cards included are AT&T and T-Mobile each one costs about $150 a month.
ОтветитьDoug, you just gave the internet your sim card ID. I advice you to replace that sim card ASAP. Thanks.
ОтветитьI'm glad you found a solution that works for you, but it's too expensive for me. I have a NEXQ6GO-M router with a Sierra Wireless MC7455 modem card. I think all in I'm out about $120 CDN (approx. $85 USD). My cellular service charges me a flat rate of $100 CDN (approx. $70 USD) a year.
ОтветитьStarlink has changed there plans. Check into it
ОтветитьStarlink Standard Kits are now available for $299 with Residential and Roam service plans.
ОтветитьAmazon won’t deliver to `uK ‘ USA only pity
ОтветитьThis router looks great, and the price is also OK.
Altough I wouldn't play with wifi bridging, it would be much more simple to buy an acces point, that is capable to work in client mode (like a tl-wa1201 v3 or similar), and you could just plug it into a WAN port and set it's precedence.
Simple ? You must be joking 🙂🙃🙂
ОтветитьGreat stuff cap. Good for us landlubbers too. Thank you kind human.
ОтветитьThieves!.................Their be pirates? ☠
ОтветитьYour software development background shows on this one!
ОтветитьIs seeker ever going to be used for what it was designed for? Where are the researchers?
ОтветитьI have been using MOFI6500 for two months now and using a Waveform external antenna.
ОтветитьGreat choice !
I've been using MoFi for 3 years now, and always have internet even when my mobile devices cant.
When are you gonna get an Oracle database for the boat?
Ответить
