I haven’t heard about this till now. I played mtg and quit about a year ago, I imagine this was pushed by Hasbro rather than WOTC. Ever since Hasbro bought WOTC, it has been on a downward spiral. They are pushing profit over customer satisfaction. Hence why I quit mtg. My friends have convinced me to get back into the game, but I will only play with friends.

That’s my view on this though. WOTC does have morons within it’s employment…. MaRO being a very good example of that.

I think the only way is to have WotC divorce themselves from Hasbro and reaffirm the original OGL just adding irrevocable to is only and letting them gain back some but maybe not all of the fan base. I really feel that they may never recover from this at all as the trust was broken and that can not be gained back with words only deeds.

Let all of the DnD fans that have gone onto create third party systems, properties, and so on, band together and create an open-source system. This isn't like Linux vs. Windows in that half the software might not work for Linux. These are dice-based games systems, supported by creatives no different than those that work at WotC. Release the open-source systems and switch systems, regardless of how LotC (let's face it, they're not getting any Ws here) walks back its BS. The executives want money, not fans.

I think one of the main problems is Wizards doesn't produce enough dnd content book wise to make sales. They want to profit off of other materials by 3rd parties so they don't have to work to make money. I think the mass exodus should continue to hopefully make them give up and sell the IP of dnd to a company that cares about their customers/fans.

Yeah, after playing Never winter I had an inkling this was coming. That POS game is WotC's current wet dream, everything is monetized to fuck, playing it F2P isn't even feasible anymore... Not to mention they robbed veteran paying players out of their builds and years of grinding.

there is SO much coming out right now about this, from leaks to rumors, to confirmed leaks that are actually false, to OGL 1.0(a) to 1.1 to 2.0 back to 1.2... and now there is a rumor that the head of wizards is about to be replaced... I just fail to understand why Hasbo/Wizards can't be.. transparent to begin with. I get greed, I get it 100%, but I see a more successful endeavor being supporting the customer, which in turn will keep your bottom line floating, which in turn simply gives you even more money... I guess my mind sees things differently?

WotC staff should hold an internal vote to oust the leadership. Then democratize their workplace into a co-op.

When I was 20, I was poor, but I bought a lot of Wotc products, D&D, Mtg. Now I am 40 I am far more wealthy, (and still in the gaming hobby) but I almost never buy anything from Wotc anymore. This behaviour makes sure I won't stop boycotting them. Good job wotc! Way to go!

D & D concept was invented and started by Black Isle Studios/Bioware with the release of Baldurs Gate.

Their (multiple staff member confirmed) plans to have subs pay $30 a month even if they are implementing a VTT is a underhanded stab in the crotch. Even if they plan for the fee to be a group payment, that is just adding fuck around to the weekly game "Sorry guys Kian the druid didn't pay his share so we won't be playing tonight without them". They have NO IDEA about who their community is.

I wish a company would go back in time to some of the OTHER tabletop RPGs. In 1980 a game called Space Opera was first released, followed up by a large number of supplements. It's a fascinating, highly detailed game system. That's one that I really would like to see as a video game. There were so many different systems back then to compete with DnD. Empire of the Petal Throne (1975), Harn (1986), GURPS (3rd ed, 1986), Top Secret (1980) and, of course, Shadowrun (2nd ed, 1992, which has 3 really good modern computer RPGs) are a few examples. If you can find some of these, I'd highly recommend them as alternatives to DnD.

"They're overreacting" is a common excuse for EVERY SINGLE ONE of these smug, know-nothing corporate types who like to THINK they're smart! I'm not a tabletop gaming type, but I have had an interest in buying up video game adaptations of tabletop games like D&D as well as Paizo's & Owlcat Games' Pathfinder video games. This news has me worried over what's going to happen to the video game adaptations of the Pathfinder: Kingmaker & Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous games if WotC keeps being so belligerent & bullheaded about their stupid OGL! I'm NOT an expert on tabletop games & tabletop companies so I honestly don't know how many other franchises will be impacted by the con artists pushing this restrictive OGL either. It sounds like the ONLY lesson the higher-ups at WotC & Hasbro have taken from the backlash is that they were "right" to believe that the community is the biggest obstacle to what they believe is "their" money! They're probably not going to alter the OGL by much if that's their takeaway from all this, but only time will tell! Christ, this is like the "Warcraft 3: Reforged" debacle except it's MUCH worse!
