The inside leg kicks are to tie up the opponent, either preventing a follow-up or counter by them (and worst case weakening their strike/kick/counter) or taking away balance so he can follow up himself. Perfect counter for squared off opponents if you have the leg length.

it's rare to see a heavyweight that's so technical and moves like a middleweight. most heavyweight just go out ang slug each other.

i often find the techniques you talk about making these big differences all come straight from traditional martial arts...its a shame people these days aren't more able to differentiate the effectiveness of traditional martial arts techniques from the non-effectiveness of the "no resistance" training methods a lot of the traditional schools provide

Most skilled heavyweight kickboxer I ever seen very powerful too very fit as well he can be world champion in boxing as well and even in mma too if he works his wrestling defence hes a very good fighter!

These leg kicks are standard repertoire in Kyokushin: stand too square and you get it on the inside. Stand too sideways and you get it on the outside. Thank you for making the video, great fighter using technikue usually seen in much lower weightclass, one of a kind for his class.

His patience and technical ability is what separates him. He assesses what you can do, and once he figures you out, he makes adjustments.

You definitely need to bring your A-game to beat him.

To be honest, he looks like kickboxing was waiting for him to join. He has incredible physique. He doesn't have a weak area in his body, everything is evenly distributed.

Dude fights like a Kyoukushin karateka without kimono but with gloves. His phone booth style, staying in the pocket and do his masterful boxing plus lowkick combo is amazing.

I tried that low kick to the inside of the back leg in sparring... Fuck it's not easy . I got countered or I kick the person in the balls hard lol 😂😂

Strangely, Rico didn't used much of his famous leg kick against his third match with Ben Saddik. I wonder why.

Most impressive thing to me as a spectator is how much flow Ver has, every single movement leads to a new, usually very hard to predict follow up, every single movement I swear. Every feint and fake leg raise, every jab it all leads into the eventual head or leg hit even if blocked 3 times over. Super impressive imo.
