Used it for a white shower base with chrome base, how long before you can wipe the chrome?
Thanks

Today wasn't my first time caulking, as I'd had to re-apply caulk to my shower in my apartment regularly. Just cheap caulk in a tube.
However, today WAS my first time using good caulk (GE Silicone) and a proper caulking gun. The window cleaner trick worked like a charm! The results look professional despite my lack of experience!

You professionals are driving me crazy. One says apply silicone then spray soapy water or window spray then adhere with finger. The other professionals say never apply anything wet or use your finger as silicone will not adhere to the wet surface you just sprayed. Then others use a tool. So, I am going to try all three but with one small change..........apply silicone and rather than spray soapy water or window spray I will light spray my finger and apply pressure to the silicone. What say you. Love the music.

That actually looks like a latex caulk that he's using. I have found that with true 100% silicone, using a dry finger and wiping it frequently, works best. also another tip is to cut the tip as small as possible so that you are just creating a small bead and you don't have much excess to clean up. Of course this will depend on the size of your joint but start small and if you need to increase the size of the bead, then cut a little more off of the tip.

Does it have to be an aerosol window cleaner product or will liquid spray be ok as long as it doesn't have ammonia in it?

50 -50 mix of water and alcohol in a spray bottle works fine also , and ware tight fitting rubber gloves to tool the bead

I used siliconized latex around kitchen sink about a month ago and it's still white, hasn't turned clear. Everything was cleaned and dried and used alcohol but it doesn't seem to be drying. Tried using a fan and space heater to no avail. I did have to use a thicker bead directly behind sink, trying to fill gap between edge of baseboard and sink but even at the areas that are thin, it's still white. Ideas?

As far as I can see this works because these glass cleaners contain ethanol, so this is just a convenient way to get a small amount of solvent to smooth the surface and clean off excess. Seems to work pretty well though!

I used this method and have waited 4 days and the caulk still feels tacky. Nothing sticks to it, it just feels tacky. Is it OK to clean everything with the same glass cleaner now?

I totally disagree with this form of application. The glass cleaner that is applied prior to your tooling will prevent a proper seal. It gets between the silicone and the tile and tub. Why not put the proper amount of silicone down so you don't need to remove any? I find so many of these videos that are similar that use too much product. If you take your time and put a nice consistent bead down you shouldn't have to remove any wet silicone or do any major tooling. If you do want to do tooling just run your finger along it one time and you're done.

Regarding the comments about filling the bathtub up. The only time you need to fill a bathtub up is if you have a fiberglass tub that has not been securely installed with a bed of mortar. Just stand in the tub and rock back and forth, if you hear it squeaking you know it's not been properly installed and you should fill the tub up. Installers cut corners all the time and don't properly prepare a mortar base for the tub to sit in. You don't need to do this for a cast iron tub either.

and that my friend is exactly how u run a nice bead of a caulking without overspread...people that are saying fill the tub are wrong... if ur tub is cast iron than it has no flex and if ur tub us acrylic than it should be in a bed if mortar which has no flex...any flex that a tub does have will not damage caulking thats why its caulk instead of grouted in...

Wrong!!! silicon is not the correct product ...siliconized acrylic tub caulk is best easier to apply ,,cleans up with water cures hard...silicon holds mold ..especially if the tub isn't secured properly so you have to fill with water to create the biggest gap ??? That's insane!!!! The tub,floors,walls,,etc..SHALL be installed in professional workman like manner. Read the plumbing code book ...before posting your virus on the diy community.

You need to fill the bath at least half full with water if it is an acrylic or plastic bath, . This will increase the joints with the wall as if there was a 100 KG person in the bath. Then you apply the silicone to fill the maximum gaps and let it cure at least for 6-8 hours before draining the bath. Silicone squeezes easily but tears off the surface if you pull, so you may end up with leaking silicone after some baths and showers due to movement.
