Class specific armor is important. Anyone who plays d&d would know that

If you're a fan of the original AD&D, then this is the game for you.
It presents the pen and paper feel, using the original artwork from the Monster Manuals, with the modern "D60" style gameplay that most the MMORPG games are using these days.
It took me a while to get used to the rules in play, though, because I kept trying to equate it to my knowledge of the old game rules.
If you don't know the old game rules, you'll enjoy the game, but then you'll end up thinking of it as a knock off of other games, when the reality is that Dungeons and Dragons was the first game on the market and all the dungeon crawler games for computers were imitating that. You don't need to buy anything in the game - everything can be won, eventually, or bought with in-game money from the in-game market. But if you're one of those impatient and strongly competitive players. You'll feel you'll need to pay real money to get those things right away, rather than (unfortunately) grind, grind, grind your way to the reward.

I recently started playing this game..  It's entertaining.  negatives for me are the extremely high prices in the many different stores,  The dungeons don't look or feel like dungeons to me ( DDO has them beat in that regard )  also, it's more a hack and slash game than a DnD game to me.  If you've ever played Pen and Paper DnD, I think DDO is the more realistic.  However, if you never have then this game could work.  People who are willing to pay out the nose will have an advantage.  But that is nothing new these days.  It's just not for me.

So, this video is from 3 years ago. Let's shine some light on this game.
Cryptic done fucked up.
They say it's free to play... it actually isn't. You must pay in order to even keep up with the enormous item level requirements at level 70. There is no way, shape or form that they incorporated a "work your way up" approach. You literally won't be able to beat a dungeon if you don't pay, or you don't get 2 other people who have paid to help you.
But then there's another thing. You can't get carried anymore. They lowered the party member limit from 5 to 3. You have one healer, one tank and one damage source, and if your healer isn't Paladin, you're dead regardless. They DID have a healer, called a cleric.. but they nerfed his healing output, and kept his damage output. Those are the only 2 healing classes.
Now here's another thing. There's a Dragonborn class, seems pretty cool, looks badass.. AND IT COSTS SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS.... 75 DOLLARS. Just to play the class.
Now I do have another thing to say. The guy in the review obviously doesn't know shit, and he obviously hasn't gotten to end-game... OR LACK OF END-GAME.
When the level cap was 60, there were several areas that you had 4 quests to do in each area. In each area there are 6-8 different quests that rotate each day, meaning you have to do the same 4 quests every few days, with some quests being repeated each and every day. However, there was a fairly good system for low-geared players to obtain better items. You progress through the campaigns and get Artifact Weapons and Armor, which you level up using enhancement runes, which you easily get as you play. Some people spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to max out their Artifact Weapons and armor. This was module 5. In Module 6, it got worse.
Now this was it's downfall. After they released the new module 6, all of those precious Artifact Weapons and Armor pieces that you went on a grind for, and then leveled up, they were rendered useless, because the new module offered better artifact weapons/armor, with no possible way to utilize your old artifact weapons/armor to level up the new ones. Paladin class was released, and Lifesteal, crit chance was nerfed to oblivion, making the game extremely difficult to even survive during some main quests. As I stated earlier, they lowered the dungeon party member limit from 5 to 3, ultimately making end-game dungeons impossible unless you purchase armor. There is little to no attempt for low-geared players to gain armor.
The Foundry. Absolute ass. The levels are ever-so amateur, and you run through them quickly only to find out there's no real reward other than self-satisfaction for the creator of the foundry quest. As you play, you find out the majority of the community actually has no real intention of roleplaying. It's obviously more about who has the highest gearscore.. or they call it "Item Level" now...
PvP. It has always been god-awful. I don't know what the fuck this reviewer was smoking, but it's so out of balance it literally makes you angry. So lets say in a perfect world that everyone in a PvP instance has the same gearscore. It's clear to see that Rogues and Control Wizards have the extreme advantage. Rogues, because they can stealth, and when in stealth they have a mass amount of Crowd Control, and Control Wizards because of their insane damage output and crowd control. Everyone else? Good fucking luck. But hey, don't worry. There is no legitimate matchmaking system. If you're going alone, it groups you with 9 random people. No matter the win/loss ratio of players, no matter the item level difference. You could have someone who dropped 2,000 dollars on their account, and has been playing for 3 years, fight against someone who literally just got their first character to level 70. And when you get your shit pushed in, you find out that the next PvP instance, the same mother fucker is there, raping your team. And the players on that guy's team? They're either "sweet! i'm getting carried!" or "Aw man, I want to have some fun..."
Oh and this reviewer... 2/3 stars? Who the fuck goes by 3 stars? It's 5 or 10.
If I had to rate this game... in Module 5, I would've given it a solid 7/10.... now it's a 2/10. The combat is still nice, but at end-game don't expect to beat any dungeons, or have fun in PvP, unless you pay your way to victory. Oh and don't expect any vast content either. There's very limited content.

I see a lot of positive feedback and that makes me want to try it out.  I am concerned that combat becomes boring due to the lack of abilities.  Do the characters really only have 2-3 abilities?

This is probably my favorite MMO right now ^^
It is sad that you have to pay real money to get good gear quickly, but you don't have to pay anything to play it. It just takes forever grinding after lvl 70 to get good gear. When I say forever....I MEAN FOREVER

Ugh... that isn't a mage buddy stud it is a cleric, think D&D . Hey you TOTALLY can zoom in and out. This is not a very in depth review. The quest he is showing is still basically the tutorial section... I know you can't really put time into every MMO but if you didn't get a chance to play endgame content prior to the most recent mod then you missed the ride... the momentum going into the 5th mod was ridiculously awesome, and the game play was so intense... it still is, is is just kinda boring since they keep recycling material and poorly balancing the difficulty (some say there is little to no play testing by cryptic before they dropped the mod)

I love this game. I am a pve player (not much on pvp) and really like the fact that most areas can be soloed. I love questing and this game has a nice number of quests that can be done. I wish that armor and weapons wouldn't be class specific. I especially like the foundry questing ability and the fact I can let my creative juices flow and create game content to share with others. I am a die hard D&D gamer (even the board version-played that in my early years). I think Cryptic did a good job!

My friends and I played this game all together for a good few months before we ran into the "Oh..nothing but 5man dungeons?" Damn. But the heroic dungeons are hard..wayyy hard. Enough for you to bug it to win. :P all in all though this game is def really fun! Figure you're going have to blow $5 for a mount less you find one on the auction house. It should be coming to console here soon :)
