How to Connect a USB Audio Interface to an iPad or iPhone

Can you do it with iPhone 13 Pro if you don’t got an computer or iPad?

So I tried plugging in two different audio interfaces using apple adapters to a macbook pro 2023 and an ipad pro 2017. In both cases the interfaces powered on but were not recognized by either device. I dont know what the mother f***k I’m doing wrong and even used different usb c cables. Trying to record a backing track to use for a funeral gig tomorrow

Hi - thank you for this video. While I am able to record my voice in ipad (garageband) when using my XLR dynamic mic connected to 1st input channel. When I try to connect the same XLR dynamic mic to 2nd input channel then nothing gets recorded into the garage band. I can see the green lights fluctuating in focusrite 2i2 for the 2nd input channel but nothing is getting recorded in ipad/iOS. Does iOS device allow input from only 1st channel and not 2nd?

Hi lad. I’m looking for a bit advice. So I have a RODE NT USB Mini and the same Anker adapter you have. I have plugged in the microphone and it works. When I plug my headphones into the headphone Jack part of the anker adapter nothing works. I can’t hear anything and it won’t record from the microphone either. Am I doing something wrong? If you can help me out with this I owe you one lad. From Edinburgh by the way. Just up the road!

Hey patrick! At the start i did exactly what you said and had the correct USB to iPhone input. Once i plugged in my interface (Yamaha Audiogram) I did not have any sound at all going into my iPad. I tried headphones into the interface.. Nothing at all. Do you know what this could be? Thanks.

My iRig stopped working. After watching this video I purchased an authentic Apple usb to lightning adapter. $10 on Amazon. Delivered the next day. I used it to connect my 2i2 to my iPhone 11Pro Max and voila. Sound.

Yes, that worked with my usb audio interface connected.
But, it seems my Ipad's internal mic continues to to bring in
sound also. I can't find any way to disable it in Garageband.
I can work around it, but it's a bit annoying seeing "rises" on
my VU meter when my vocal mic is unplugged.

Great video, I have a question for you... I recently got a new Ipad Mini 6 and loaded it with all my soft synths which I control with my Ableton Live DAW installed on a Mac Mini (attached to a M-Audio Air audio interface).
Because this newer ipad doesnt have a 3.5 jack (its USB C) I am not sure how to connect this to my audio interface?... I am able to experience MIDI over Bluetooth and trigger the Ipad synths with hardware keyboards and controllers with the help of an app called Midimittr (which makes the ipad talk to my Mac Mini) but how do I get the sound to my speakers?...
I feel like I am asking something really silly and may be able to figure it out anytime now, but for the moment I am stuck.. thanks

Sorry big ? So.. if I get the focusrite Scarlet 18i8 and I hook it up to my iPad Air..
..I want to know that I can set each mic/instrument cable up through Garage Band LIVE with my band and record all of us Simultaneously but on separate tracks straight into garage band so that I can literally mix and tweak each track as I please once they are all plugged in?
AND if all of that is possible and I can actually figure all that out on my own, is that when I use the “multi track” record feature on garage band?

Basically, all I want to do is plug in an electric drum kit into one channel, then my bass guitar into another, then the rhythm into another, and then my lead into another channel, and then my vocals into the fifth channel blah blah blah BUT, ALL.. at once into the Focusrite 18i8 then straight into GB, LIVE?
But I want each Instrument/channel to Be separate once they are connected to GB so that I can further mix them or pan whatever Mic/instrument I choose to the left or the right channel or whatever else I might want to add to them in garage band so I can get a good mix live between all five instruments at once.

Sorry if I’m sound confusing or I’m making this more complicated than it needs to be but I just want to know if any of that is possible Before I go out and buy the focusrite 18i8 and connect it to my new 2022 iPad Air model. I’m the singer songwriter and I’m wanting to do this for my band so we can jam and record live and dial in the sound we want so we can basically just set it and forget, then when we practice/rehearse we all still sound the way we left it and it keeps our mix/recordings consistent. -MP

I’m so confused because I’m using an interface and sending the outputs to 2 amps but in one I hear the dry signal and in another I hear wet and dry. I’m using bias fx 2, AUM and itrack sólo interface. Not sure why the audio is monitoring the dry signal 😅

Hi, I just received an adapter and powered usb hub, yet when I plug my m-audio air into the hub it turns on, but doesn’t register on my iPad at all. Like in the mic channel settings there is no option for the interface, nor is there a notification on my iPad saying the interface is connected. Is there any solution so that my iPad can recognize that the interface is connected?

Theres no power, all the other tutorials say u need a usb hub. How did u get by without using one?

Why can't I record vocal and piano at the same time? One on each channel. Seems it either records voice on L and piano on R, or both on L.
