the way that ranks work in osu is that 9 times out of 10 the highest ranked player is the best at the time, as the pp values to gain ranks are always getting higher

average skill of players when cookiezi was at his best was a lot lower than it is for mrekk making it hard to compare like how good would he be if he started when mrekk did with modern mapping?

i mean the only reason mrekk is more dominant than cookiezi its because nobody is intereated play the game to get high numbers, nothing mrekk does nowadays the others cant do, but they just dont. The game is not just about get the highest pp play or have the highest pp gap in the global leaderboard, when none is competing with you theres no difference how much ahead in numbers you are, and that marks the Cookiezi era cuz he was the greatest player in a era where a lot of players were competing to reach the #1 and he still the dominant and ahead of all those with his scores with different gear and maps
