It gained official independence on June 26, 1960 but after a few days it joined a voluntary Union with Somalia. However, when that Union failed and mafunctioned, Somaliland withdrew from the Union in 1991, and restored its former independent status, when Somalia slipped into a long, destructive Civil War.

Somalia gained independence from italy on 1st, july 1960.

You can't put the republic of somaliland next to somalia's regional governments jubaland and puntland. The republic of somaliland is a country that wants to be re-recognised. In the colonial era which every African borders are based upon, somaliland was an independent country. Since somaliland reclaimed it's independence in 1991, the republic of somaliland has functioned better than the federal government in mogadishu let alone a regional states were their presidents elect themselves.
