Yet another "watch me, an expert, build using a multitude of expensive tools but you, a novice, can do it with a sharpened potato"
ОтветитьSolid advice.
ОтветитьPeople can do incredible work with almost nothing - see Japanese carpentry...but, we live in a society that thinks bigger, more, better. It's not the plane, it's the pilot. Use the tools you need and that give you pleasure when they are in your hand. Just be happy in what you are doing...
ОтветитьHahaha as a DIYer I totally guessed it. All I have right now are hand tools, if I ever decide to buy power tools those two you mentioned are it- a saw and a drill.
ОтветитьThe only two tools in my house: a hammer and a screwdriver.
ОтветитьI found I needed a couple of extra tools to usefully expand my DeWalt cordless platform. Circ saw, combi drill, impact driver, osc multi tool, planer, jigsaw, palm router with plunge base, recip saw, angle grinder, orbital sander, Die Grinder and power washer. If only I could find a reason to use them!😂 Tools to me are almost jewellery, I love them, no I don’t wear them😅
ОтветитьI wouldnt even attempt to build anything without at least a drill, impact driver, circular saw with guide rail, jigsaw, orbital sander and a router. Thats 6 tools and in my opinion its best for a new start to just buy all these but off brand so for example here in France i started off by buying all these tools from LIDL and it cost me less than 250 euro for everything as it was their own brand. Its now been over 6 years since i started woodworking and ive upgraded all the LIDL brand tools to Makita tools as i like the color of them lol and to be fair the LIDL tools do have their limits but for the money they got me started and helped me make some really nice stuff, plus i still have them and they all still work fine.
ОтветитьAs a diy-et I would not live without a jigsaw, with the various blades it is very useful
ОтветитьGreat video. Thanks for this. I recently moved to another country and couldn't take my tools with me. I have these two tools and have done many small projects with them. The biggest project so far was a walk-in singing booth (4ft x 4ft x 7ft) with a door. So yeah I would definitely get these two tools as the minimum or at the maximum if you want to be a minimalist builder.
ОтветитьIm new into woodworking for making chair, i already have hand router for making joinery so should i still need drill? Or should i just buy jigsaw? I only trust high end brand, so for now i can only choose one of those. Thanks for the help
ОтветитьSawzall!?! My Milwaukee hackzall is ESSENTIAL. I even use it to butcher my food!
A really handy light. Even if you have a light on your gucci drill. Not just bright but functional like them lil DeWalts with the magnets etc.
Angle grinder.
I know you don’t need these tools. But my stuff always bleeds into other areas and those two just blast through whatever else I need to.
Is Dewalt still good? I've heard they used to be the best but newer ones are not what used to be.
ОтветитьThe tools that you talk about were my immediate guess (ha hahaha).
However, I just want to say that beside these tools, the next one one my list was a sander. This one really changed my life!!!
Excellent set of valuable advices. Thanks a lot !
ОтветитьCircular saw CORDED and a Milwaukee drill all you need
Ответить18 volt is a 20 volt
ОтветитьCrazy how that same saw has gone from $99 to $138 in three years.
Ответитьfunctions = cutting + fastening
tool 1 = circular saw (takes care of cutting)
tool 2 = 18v/20v cordless drill with clutch (takes care of drilling with drill bits, driving screws with driving bits, making hole with paddle bits and hole saws)
💌
How about sanders? Can they help beginners hide less than perfect cuts?
Sure, sanding can be done manually, but from a value standpoint, where does an orbital (or any other types) sander ranks on your list?
Is it worth it to spend the extra $83 to go from a 6-1/2 inch blade circular saw to a 7-1/4 one (I'm looking at the two DeWalt options on Amazon, priced $99 and $182, respectively)?
ОтветитьNow its 3 tools circ saw drill and multitool
ОтветитьYour video was a breaking point for me. I work in corpo and am used to overthink / overplan stuff. I always wanted to start woodworking but never did, since I was SURE I would have to invest a ton of money first. Well guess which tools are on the way. I'm starting tomorrow. Thank you!
ОтветитьNew to the channel and this is my first video. I'm a total noob but I just finally bought a Makita 18v driller driver, so that seems to be a good sign. As a computer nerd I can't wait to do my planning with SketchUp and then learn to build it.
Ответить1. power drill/impact driver
2. Oscillating Tool.
I have a jigsaw and a circular saw and I use my jigsaw way more. It’s way less powerful but still capable of way more types of cuts than the circular saw. If you ever need to cut stone or hardee board though the circular saw would be the better choice. I’ve mcguivered a wet saw using a circular saw with a diamond blade and a friend squirting the blade with a spray bottle to cut stone. So it’s hard to say. But a jigsaw is definitely one of the most versatile cutting tools imo
Ответитьlol I agree
ОтветитьBunch of blah blah.
ОтветитьAs a DIYer I've got a relatively small collection of mostly budget tools. I didnt realise it at first but it did become very clear that my drill driver and circular saw were the most useful. The budget drill was mostly fine but I found it doesn't cut it with the larger bits when drilling bolt holes or whatever so it's worth investing in something decent just for that.
Ответитьgreat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьAs a DIYer, not a fan of the circular saw because of how dangerous it can be. I hope to one day be more confident wirh it! But for now, i just use a reciprocating saw when i can instead.
ОтветитьI Love The Video ....Straight To The Point....I Understood Easily....It Wasn't Boring & I Didnt Get Lost Like The Other Videos
ОтветитьI've been a residential house painter for 40 years. My work involves replacing/repairing trim, interior and exterior. I started off with these two tools...a drill and a circular saw. As time went on, I realized a few other tools would make my work faster and easier. I now have these tools...mitre saw, sawzall, nail gun, angle grinder, oscillating tool. Put a sanding disc on that angle grinder and you can strip loose paint very quickly, the oscillating tool lets me cut out rotten bits of trim that would otherwise be impossible with any other tool. The mitre saw will pay for itself very quickly. A nail gun is indispensable. The sawzall just tears things up that need to be torn up.All of my tools are cordless as my projects are relatively small. If you're going to be working larger jobs for long periods of time, then corded tools would probably be best. The tools I mentioned would also be very good for a handyman to have. I feel sorry for the dudes I see struggling to complete work without them.
ОтветитьBig fan of your videos, Ethan. You need to add a hoodie with The Honest Carpenter logo & the saw to your store. I wanted to buy something to support the channel, and I could use a hoodie right now, but the only one you have on the site just says "Carpenter." And I'm not a carpenter. I also have a lot of brutally honest friends. And I don't know if I want to wear that around and have people saying, "WTF?? you're not a carpenter!" Which they definitely would. So, yeah. Keep up the good work.
ОтветитьI used a reciprocating saw a lot when enclosing my moms car port. I also use it to trim trees and and to cut chunks of wood for the grill. (I had mesquite trees in my frontyard and backyard)
ОтветитьGreat video, could cut 50% tho
ОтветитьFor a novice DIY, can you explain the numbers/figures in the drill?
ОтветитьI agree, these two tools can accomplish so much. I started out making frames for canvases though, so my first power tools, aside from a drill, was a miter saw and a brad nailer. I can't function without my miter saw. Lol
ОтветитьCorrect!
Ответитьwe don't really need any power tools. people built cities with no power tools for thousands of years before there was any power tools. what's the point of this video.
ОтветитьFor some reason, I use the router a lot.
ОтветитьA friend of mine started me out with the adjustable head jigsaw. I made sawhorses and put a sheet of plywood on it and then took a 2 x 4 and clamped it to the plywood.. this was my cutting guide for a straight line. I could use the saber saw to cut curves. The circular saw for a novice is pretty dangerous, so he figured it was better to start with a jigsaw. Of course I had the handrail. That was before lithium batteries I agree with your selection of the handrail. The next thing I got was a tablesaw.. he told me after that get a table router. I got a small Makita 5 inch trim saw instead of the 7 1/4. I like that lightweight trim saw for cutting plywood. 7 1/4 seem too big to me and I never did buy one. He told me the last thing to get would be a wood lathe. Mainly adjust, make bowls with it. If you need to make a round piece was, you can buy a baluster and cut it off and use that for fancy round stock to make a project. We were both in our early 20s and I think he was pretty smart. I like your channel. You are really smart.
ОтветитьCan you recommend an honest tool for eliminating time-wasting babble?
ОтветитьLove trying to cut an angle on the end of 2x4 without guard getting in the way. Then attempt to hold the guard up while also holding board and saw. Yes please!
ОтветитьSo true, so so true...but I believe we all need to pass through this buying episode in our diy career...it is a price you have to pay due to lack of aprentice experience.
ОтветитьI wish I could cut a long straight line.
Ответитьbig projects: circular saw
really small projects: jigsaw
that's my take
Took 3 mins to finally mention what they are. Smh
ОтветитьI have a few Bosch Professional cordless 18V tools. (Drill, Jig saw and Multi cutter) What do you think about their circular saw from that line for a DIYer?
Ответить
