Holding cmd + R does absolutely nothing for me : ( I've tried it hundreds of times, including other keyboard combinations. And I know for certain my keyboard works. Is there any other way to reset it or bypass the login screen?

I have an iMac 2007 and when I followed your instructions, all I got was a new user account. Nothing was really reset back to factory settings. I still had my old system with all my old software installed and configured in a way that creates obstacles for new users. How can I actually start the factory reset procedure so that the installation files are used again to reformat the disk and start with a brand new system, entirely?

Both steps aren’t working. Step 1 come in our sins me too the main screen, and does factory reset. Step 2 is saying shut down illegal option —w.

Method 2 is wrong. Using this method tricks your computer into thinking it is new so it starts up and allows you to create a new profile but does not erase your old accounts or your data. After setting up your computer you can go into your accounts page and any account that was on there before using this method will still be present a accessible. Do not use this method if you are selling or getting rid of your computer.

Thanks for the very informative tip..When I typed in the codes it told me that the writing is blocked. So it didn't work. It sent me right back to the utilities screen that I can't get out of.

Can't do the 'S' one. It says it's write protected or sumthin. I found the mac left out in my office corridor I share with other bizs. Any idea what else I can do? Tried Cont R and that only let me wipe the hard drive of the previous user. Should I just drop it in the recycling bin?
