I was WAITING for this: M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro Review

i have to go try one. I just want something that feels like a piano and now this is like £500 compared to £1k for the s88 - quite a difference

My primary concern it’s M Audio stuff is that they abandon support relatively quickly. A lot of their midi keyboard controllers are class compliant meaning that M Audio do not write drivers for their gear. I have an Oxygen 88 with hammer action and it doesn’t work with Mac OS Ventura, so the board only gets played with my iPad. So buy this then several years down the line this might just stop working. For that reason I wouldn’t buy M Audio again.

Hi! A little bit late with my comment but I just bought this hammer 88 pro, it's great in terms of keybed as you reviewed but I didn't also get to control the logic's virtual instruments. Contacting the help center didn't help. Did you eventually find a solution or heard of a one?

Hello friend, please, I would like to know your opinion and advice, I am not a pianist, I work orchestral music, film music, and I have a ni s61 mkii keyboard, with a semi-weighted key, and a studiologic sl88 studio, with fatar weighted keys, I would like to find a keyboard that was a bit heavier than the semi-weighted, and less heavy than the studiologic, my big question is, could the hammer 88 pro be the keyboard i'm looking for? Or being a graduate, will it also be very heavy? the studiologic tp100 keys are very heavy, and when i play, my fingers get tired. And my other question, would the hammer pro be just as heavy as the previous normal hammer? I think the hammer is not graduated, would I notice much difference with the pro version, graduated? Please, I would like to know your opinion to know what I decide. thank you so much.

Does the mod wheel work for Logic Pro X? I have trouble using an external mod wheel to work in Logic so I am curious if the modwheel automatically maps without having to manually assign. Thanks

I don't really understand the purpose of the faders - if you're practicing it's nice to have the drums turned up loud, but you can do that with your mouse. If you're doing the final mixdown, you're adjusting numerous things - VST plugins sound, EQ, reverb, etc. Obviously you already have the mouse and computer keyboard at hand, which gives you precise control of the faders, so of what use are these short little faders on the keyboard?

Ended up returning the arturia after finding the keys too heavey. Definitely enjoying the m-audio more. They seem to have hit a sweet spot. Although I miss the slimmer profile, laptop stand, and aesthetics from the arturia.

I tried the the keyboard today and the action is very nice. In the same way that Kawai VPC1 is nice. I can’t speak to the velocity curves or black/white key balance.

I own Studiologic SL88 Grand and it’s a controller to drive people around you nuts. Hammer 88 Pro on the other hand, has a very quite action.

I hear it’s a Medeli K6S keybed so you can look for alternative boards that use it.

I personally did not find the keyboard to be premium looking, but oh that action.

I am divided between this keyboard and the Arturia Keylab Mkii. All I want is some great piano feel and tones, and something that won't put me off too much when I play on either of these two and then suddenly decide to play on an acoustic grand piano. Which one should I get?

I love M-Audio's keyboards - the only reason I'm not buying this one is because I already bought a Roland A 88 some years ago and am very partial to it: it seems quite similar to the M-Audio 88 in many ways, even the build quality and hammer action, but M-Audio is in a class of its own when it comes to compatibility.

Please no one buy the Nektar 88! It's terrible! The DAW integration is incredible, but the sensors on that keyboard make it pretty much useless. Some notes don't even register! you can play at pretty much the exact same velocity and some key presses register and others don't.

The 61 key version though is really good! All notes register and it performs as it should. But avoid the 88 key version!

What's difference between M - Audio keyboard and Casio, Yamaha, Roland and Korg keyboards ? Do they all have same common tones like Piano, honky tonk piano, synth piano, pipe organ, church organ, electric guitar, harmonica, glass harmonica, accordian, warm bass , vibraphone etc etc as in Casio keyboards or something more interesting ?
