I wish more players would treat practice just like a game. You never pitch with your hat on backwards and you never pitch in shorts. You really should be dressed as closely as you can
to your game uniform. Especially at his level, every little thing makes a huge difference. It's not about improving ability at his level, it's about being able to precisely repeat the motion
over and over.

You mentioned his “plots” like vert and horizontal movement and how Dakota would have 16k/9IP. How does the axis of movement affect the pitch especially fastballs?

We didn't ever think of mph growing up. If some guy threw hard we just said he could throw heat. Fastballs are the easiest things to teach a kid to hit .We just found a good pitching machine that threw as hard as the pitchers we were going to be facing and lived in the cages. Adjusting to breaking pitches or off speed is the hardest.

I never played organized baseball so please take this question with that in mind: that little hand-pump before he throws - could that be considered a balk or whatever it’s called? I never really understood the balk thing.

tell him to tighten his glove hand to his body as he throws. he is wide open and it is affecting his location.

Kids having to work too hard to throw 96. Kid looks more like a quarterback. Some other lanky kid can come up and stretch out like big rubber band effortlessly and hit 98 .Like David bring down Goliath!!Strange how that is but it is!! When that happens you will say to yourself "Did he just hit 98"?From his motion I thought it was 75.though it did ring true when it hit the mit.

The glove drop is an issue with most catchers. Subtle & small is good. These huge drop movements don’t help

He throws hard, but it also looked like he hit the imaginary batter at least twice. Control matters. I'm sure people will hate this comment, so I looked him up on the draft report for baseball America: "He has walked 6.6 batters per nine innings in his minor league career and frequently misses the strike zone with all of his pitches."

Why does the catcher keep moving his glove last minute? Wouldn’t that pull the pitchers eye(s) away from his target? I know the pros might be able to get away with it during games, but this is bullpen, where he’s working on stuff. Not game simulation…

@MrMaacin05
@MrMaacin05 - 28.11.2023 07:37

Why are you a free agent? Your arm angles and finish positions on breaking balls vs fastballs are wildly different even on 1st glance. To 99.9% of the population this is insanity… 97 to a big leaguer is just another day, have to bring more to the table than that. To anyone that wants to say I don’t know what I’m talking about, I was drafted in 05’ as a 6’4 lefty and blew my arm out and then joined the Marines. God’s gift will get you the looks, but it’s a bit of luck and ALOT of studying and practice that get you to that ultimate elite level.

Amazing late break on that CB! He would definitely fool batters with that pitch! Only batter I can see holding off on swinging at that is Will Smith from the Dodgers. Other than that, he's got MLB potential!
