Do you have experience with rooting determinate suckers? How does it affect terminal growth and maturity of sucker-grown plants? Been doing indeterminates for decades.
ОтветитьThis is my favorite way to propagate tomatoes. I am part of a community garden and we need a lot of seedlings for our growing project for local food pantry.
ОтветитьHome depot makes a killing on tomato plants lol!
ОтветитьLove the Armenian cucumbers!
ОтветитьThank you for sharing
ОтветитьKegger cups are great for seedlings and cuttings because they take a long time to dry out. Early in a plant's like I will often take a smaller clear plastic cup and put it upside down on top to make a tiny terrarium.
But I like to keep them in trays that stop them from falling over, which they are prone to do.
This is so informative and easy to understand, I love the armpit analogy 😂
ОтветитьAwesome instructions thank you, I’m in the south and my plants are having a difficult time even using shade cloth per your instructions
ОтветитьWonderful tutorial , bless you an thank you :)
ОтветитьI planted several cuttings from a mulberry tree and a pear tree…I know .. off topic.. I’m on the south side of TX near the gulf and there have sprouted outside on my front porch… but it’s too hot ( like 115 heat index) and I e lost a few… what can I do with the ones still not dead to save them?!! Btw, love your videos, thank you so much!
ОтветитьThank you! I'm totally trying this right now.
ОтветитьThanks ! This is great!
ОтветитьI watched you video about two weeks ago and I went out and found suckers from two different varieties and planted them in soil with solo cups. They are now perky and growing and will soon be flowering. As you stated this method saves time and money. Can’t wait to see them grow out and produce. Thanks for sharing this valuable information on sucker preservation.
ОтветитьCan you clone from any branch or does it have to be a sucker? Love your channel!
Ответитьso now, I just did a few suckers. how would fish tank water work? theres alot of nitrates in that water, but I dont want to bombard them too soon so for now im just using rain water since we had rain a few days ago
ОтветитьCan you do this for determinate tomatoes?
ОтветитьMy cuttings just start to rot progressively and die
ОтветитьI returned from a trip and found tons of suckers from one plant. I knew I could propagate them, but this video gave me excellent information on how to do this successfully. Now I've got 8 new tomato plants😃.
ОтветитьIf you already have a place ready to plant the cutting, could one just dig a nice hole, fill it with potting mix, then stick the cutting in right where you are going to grow the plant? Why stick it in a cup to root, then have to transplant out later? Also, why would one root the cuttings indoors and not outside?
ОтветитьJust show us
ОтветитьI have done this before in a cup with potting mix. First day or so I’ll leave them in a dark place to recuperate. Then I put them in a sunny area. It’s very simple to do. I live in South Texas where is very hot and humid most of the time.
ОтветитьCan you start new plants with actual limbs rather than suckers?
I have had a major problem with blight. I was told that plants coming in contact with the soil is the main problem. I prune any limbs that may come in contact with the soil.
Why not prune limbs that grow down and leave the suckers?
Suckers typically grow up. The limb next to it typically grows down and I often prune it. Thanks.
Have you tried putting miracle grow in the water with the suckers? Thanks.
Ответитьthis vid never gets to the point
ОтветитьCan you clone determinate tomatoes?
ОтветитьHello can i put aloe vera into the water
ОтветитьNew gardener here. I am propagating a new tomato plant from a branch. Just ONE branch. It has started rooting already, I just wonder if it would actually grow into a full plant? Will it sprout more branches?
ОтветитьI have rooted suckers from my hybrids to avoid buying more seeds next season; I start them in Michigan in the fall and take them to Florida for the winter. I get some tomatoes during the winter, then start some more suckers before we head back in the spring and have plants ready to plant as soon as the frost danger is past.
One thing...I tried using rooting powder on my suckers 2 or 3 times...they all died. Only the ones I put directely into potting soil survived and thrived...for whatever reason. Just saying.
Could I keep my propagated plants inside a cheap plastic greenhouse over the winter then put them in the ground next spring? Or will they not last?
ОтветитьI love ❤️
Ответитьto slow it down or over winter... is it possible to just remove some of the leaves and let it keep growing until spring?
ОтветитьThank you for making the video and sharing your knowledge on propagating tomatoes.
ОтветитьPerfect. I do the water method but will for sure try the soil. 👌 Subscribed.
ОтветитьI have beautiful huge sweet beefsteaks I’m going to try this both ways! Thx for the info. I needed a nudge.
Keek
Awesome! I'm going to go take some clippings today. THANKS!
ОтветитьArmenian cucumbers are the best absolutely! I learned about them living in the country of Jordan for 3 1/2 years. Anybody that tastes Armenian cucumber will never go back eating traditional cucumbers again :-)
ОтветитьQuestion: can determinant plants be cloned
ОтветитьVery impressive. Do the clones grow tomato fruit?
ОтветитьWhat an extraordinary guy!! wow. wish I had known this weeks ago, but hopefully I have enough time to squeeze this in. Good luck to me. TYVM once again
ОтветитьI very much appreciate a gardening video that depicts growing, soil amending, harvesting, pruning, and especially cutting propagation! I've been in EMS since high school earning my paramedic cert and working night through my Bachelor's in bio before medical school. My family dairy farm sells fresh milk and cheese on-site and I donate to my local food bank. The typical contemptuous internet gardening advice is "NEVER EVER........: or "Always no-matter-what,,,,," and watching your channel this year has helped me fill my yearly notebook already! Than0k Y

Hello
ОтветитьJet star is really great in Pennsylvania. There is a tomato festival only about 15 miles away .
ОтветитьGreat advice. I stuck a sucker directly into the soil near the original tomato plant.....and the sucker is growing well with tiny flowers. I’m so excited. Going to do more of this! Thks for the info! Ahna
ОтветитьCan you clone hybrid tomatoes
ОтветитьAwesome! Thank you! This was very well done, and very well explained and demonstrated! I overwintered 2 tomatoes, so I am going to try cuttings while waiting for my seedlings to grow!
ОтветитьHas anyone done this in Minnesota? Growing season for tomatoes is done, fini, capoot after the first fall frost, around end of September. Do you just keep them under grow lights and keep cutting and starting over until May? For me I think the cost of running the lights might not be cost effective? (Maybe I’m being negative because it’s almost end of April here and we are still getting snow every day and it’s been terribly cloudy and my poor seedlings are getting no sun in my southern exposure windows)
ОтветитьI know this is a year later, but does anyone know if rooting hormones would help… or are they just unnecessary? Thanks so much. Love your videos, Brian.
