I have a 1995 Rx7 and it has not given me one bit of trouble. Not one. You can't be a lazy car owner. I do my own maintenance except for brakes. Changing the plugs, oil, rear diff fluid, trans fluid, and coolant. It's easier than any new cars of today. I also changed out the comuter for an Apexi Powerfc and the terrible radiator for a n all aluminum one. I removed the catalytic converter that is under the hood which lowered the underhood temps by 100 degrees. I also installed a larger intercooler. So far, no one problem . And one other thing it is a nice smooth ride if you don't get the R1 or R2 version. I love my FD and it is the best sports car I have ever owned. You just can't be a lazy car owner.. I take care of my cars. It's not that hard. This guy makes the FD sound like a terrible car. He is cluelass.

Yah.... by the time we frigging KNEW about the damn car they'd stopped selling them! The marketing team dropped the ball something fierce...

If they re-released it, maybe do some minor internal upgrades like a good head unit, newer style rims, using a computer to control the sequential turbo setup and eliminate the vacuum lines that make the car unreliable, etc, it would sell like hot cakes...

Oh, and a 4 rotor option would be amazing.

I had a 1981 edition in white. That was the most fun car to drive in that era. But it also was the most terrifying one when skidding while cornering.
The most terrifying and fun time was when I downshift and floored it to make a right turn on an almost red light and… spun out 360 in the middle of the road right in line in the middle lane. At the next red light, the cars next to me applauded, while I was still panting.
Terrifying and fun.

I only drove once an RX-7 and the guy who had it had modified and wanted me to do a test run. He modified it to the point of being undrivable, for example he installed bigger turbos and increased the boost significantly to output around 500Bhp, He also did some suspension mods. The thing you talked about about the boost dropping significanlty mid-corner was multiplied in that car and almost killed me, I barely managed to control it... control... in the sense I did not crash it, it was nasty. I immediately turned the car back to its owner and told him to shove it in his %%#$$#$ before it kills him. He was too proud of his mods to remove them; surely enough he totaled it a few days later. Since then I hated RX-7's, I declined any chance to drive one again, therefore never driven a proper RX-7 as intended from the factory.

I really hope to own one of these one day. It’s such a shame they were only made for 3 years and even moreso that it was followed up with the rx8. Not that the rx8 is a bad thing it’s just a different thing and I hate that it was the only modern rotary.

Well in order to sell it in the U.S. it had to have a five foot catalytic converter..10 oxygen sensors..a 3 foot resonator..3 mufflers..an Einstein level emission and Evap system.. Poor thing was so choked up it couldn't breathe..And when you add turbos it simply destroyed itself..poor lil apex seals also get eat up by ethanol..and so does the cats..Oh yea and the idea of running 2 stroke oil in them didn't work..Stopped up the cats..When these things are uncorked it was an eardrum buster..I've owned a bunch of rotary engines..my favorite was the old school RX4..

Just give it a minute and somebody will have an LS under the hood..That's the only engine that exists today..It literally comes standard in everything..From beetles to corvettes...😅
I would definitely slam a Slummins 6.7 in it with 6 turbos..I'm talking bout turbos all over the place..And 6 24 inch giant straight smoke stacks sticking out of the hood..If it ain't coaling it ain't rolling.!!

Well, I am an old fart and even worse I am German, so I remember pretty well when the RX7 came out but nobody in Germany wanted one. First reason was that everybody remembered the NSU Wankel and that thing blew up all 5 minutes. Second reason was that everybody thought that Japanese cars are just knock offs of 10 year old German technology and when you have a look at i.e. a Datsun engine that thing looked a lot like a Mercedes or a Mazda 323 engine that looked pretty much like a BMW 02 engine and the final step in the back was, back then if you were a successful pimp at the time you would drive a Corvette, if you are an unsuccessful pimp you drive some 2nd hand Japanese sports car and all others simply bought Porsches.

I had a silver one like in the video for 10 years(and two engine rebuilds) as my only car/daily driver, which I tastefully modified. It had almost +100 rwhp more than stock with full suspension and wheels. I loved that car! It was awesome when it ran. If I had the space, aptitude & will, I'd love to build an LSX-swapped FD.

this video pretty much covered it all. def a gorgeous car and great design buuuuuut then you remember Mazda take on a designed engine, which is why people swap them for an LS or something that can be fast and reliable. I will say those 4 rotor builds the notes they put out sound beautiful and get you thinking then you remember its still a rotary. and yes that synthetic oil problem ive had to either turn down work or advise customers NOOOOOO!! with their RX8's when those used to be around.

My friend had one that was mildly modified to around 450hp and his dad another one at 700hp. Both were constantly in the garage. They are beautiful cars, but unless you can turn wrenches or you are rich, the maintenance will kill you. It's one of the few cars to be up on a hoist more than the N54(BMW's first twin turbo inline 6), my summer driver.
