THINGS I NEED TO WORK ON* GENRE - POP/EDM

Arrangement🥕

Especially with these types of Pop, EDM Beats. Beat structuring is something I struggle with occasionally. Sometimes when I structure a beat some parts sounds empty by itself, like it's missing something especially in the verse section. I may add additional sounds or layer them but other times I don't, due to the fear of making the beat sections indistinguishable [verse, pre chorus, chorus etc.] The beat might just be missing vocals and good lyrics😂and i be overthinking and frustrating myself.😂😂no joke...Maybe what I should do is add an accapella to the track to give me a different perspective of how the beat would sound in an actual context of a song with vocals. From there, I might be able to better decide whether or not additional sounds are needed in the verse sections.

Drum riser fills are another thing. Ion know how to properly create those riser drum fills. I know how to create the rhythm in the piano roll, but, it's creating the distinctive sound normally heard in most EDM tracks similar to the riser fills in the song by Diplo - Don't Forget My Love. Thats what I'm just not getting right. I tried a couple of samples but I don't like the way it sounds. Could be a result of shitty samples or bad mixing or both. I'm still experimenting with this...


Chord Progression/melodies🍎

ion gon lie, my chord progressions be hella trash, well, some of them. Let's not talk about melodies.😂I'm partially skilled at making good melodies by clicking it in the piano roll. I cant fully express myself using this method. It kills the connection I'm tryna build with the music everytime I stop to click in notes. I'm more of a hands on musical playing person if your know what I mean. I guess the way I feel is better transferred and expressed through my hands, on physical musical instruments.
I been wanting to use parallel keys in my progression especially in pop and EDM beats as well. I love the colourful flavour that parallel chords bring to the table. So hopefully I will be incorporating parallel chords into future uploads.


Chord Prog / Melody Rhythm🍑

Chord Progression/ Melody rhythm gives the music it's movement/bounce. As stated in the first paragraph above about being restricted using a mouse alone, I do try to create a decent melody rhythm even if that method of making melodies doesn't work 100% for me. Nevertheless, it's still an area of needed improvement.


Sound Selections🍍

Sound selection is no doubt an important element. Choosing quality sounds are just as crucial as combining sounds that work exceptionally well together. In my newbie years I have faced difficulties in this area. However, over the passed 5 years I have made progress which I'm honestly proud of. Although quality sounds are an absolute necessity, searching for them through a myriad of vst libraries isnt always a walk in the park. This process can sometimes be time consuming delaying the progress amd completion of my beats. On many occasions i have become so exhausted and uninterested searching through VST sounds, that I just end up deleting the whole project all together😣💯no joke.


Mixing🍆

Mixing is the process by which various music production techniques such as Eqing, Compression, Volume Leveling, Effects, panning and other shit that Ion know about..😂 etc are used to create a well balanced, solid and cohesive song/beat, in my own words. At the moment i cant focus on this as much due to lack of proper equipment and a well treated acoustic studio room but there's no denying that this area needs improvement. A crappy beat can't be saved by a good mix, so I believe it's better for me focus on making better music for the time being.
