Thanks for the comparison! I liked the Yamaha more 90% of the time. Looking to upgrade my MODX 7 to any 8 but I think you sold me on Modx8+

Roland sounds weird with the modeling Zen-core. There's a big gap between Fantom and Fantom O, but virtually 0 between Montage and MODX. So, the latter wins hands down!

Yamaha bass is better. It sounds more real.

I want to replace a Krome 88 that I've put through it's paces in two cover bands. Which is a better keyboard the Fantom 08 or the Modx8+ for quickly arranging presets into performance ready sequence? A purchase is pending and I don't have a lot of time to refinine sounds at first as gigs are upcoming. I need to usually cover up to 72+ songs between the two bands... really would appreciate some feedback Also if anyone has feedback on the key beds please share. I've seen some wear and tear comments come up on the Modx8+...

I enjoy your videos, but you should always play identical music on both pianos. And I could choose the sounds better, more similar to each other.

Thank you for the time and effort putting this comparison video together. Great playing throughout. I have the Montage but am impressed by the 08. Love Yamaha and Roland for different reasons, either would be good to have. In a mix with effects processing it would be difficult for the end listener to tell apart.

The Yamaha sounds like an actual grand piano, whereas the Roland doesn't sound authentic or real.

The Distorted Guitar on the Roland sounds like a $50 kid keyboard.

What, no tone wheel organ demo from the Roland? Thats its killer feature over the MODX (i have both).

I am a recent owner of the FantomO6. IF I had auditioned this keyboard in a store instead of mail ordering without ever playing it, I would not have bought it. The presets and scenes sound horrible, there is not warmth or fun in playing any of them. So, my first impression was bad...then the next day I decided to make my own scene and my own sounds from a blank VA program. I created my own patches from basic sound waves and the built up my own scene with my sound designs. It sounded fantastic! The Fantom is also the most thought-out UI menu synth that Roland has ever built, I have gone deep into sound design, effects, controllers, mixer, and scene balance and designs, splitting and layering custom-made sounds across the keyboard using four layers/zones....all done without looking at the manual once yet. The 4x4pads were smaller than I had anticipated, but this is actually better for using one hand and 4 fingers for launching groups, the main reason I bought this keyboard, the pattern sequencer and the ability to launch any pattern combination from the pads.

I have both a Fantom 06 and a standard Modx 6, and they compliment each other really well, but if natural instruments are your thing, the Yamaha is your go to, the pianos, strings and Eps are clear winners.
But on the synth sound front, the Roland has it in the bag, and with the model expansions, the gap only widens.
Both are fantastic machines though and you'll be happy with either if you get one.

Roland has much better piano sounds than you picked to compare with Yamaha.

I taught myself how to play on an old entry level Yamaha PSR back in the day. I think their pianos have a lot of effects added to them that just makes you want to keep playing. Even on the cheaper models the pianos sound great. As a current fantom 6 owner, I'd go for the Roland board for recording.

-just pure coincidence we share the same name🤷🏾‍♂️

Let's be clear here, Yamaha always has better piano sound than Roland. But, there is nothing to lose when you get a Roland. Roland is a powerfull computer. A well buillt machine. I think boht of this are amazing. I would get this Roland f08 in the future.
