If only more parents could be this real. I've seen adults in their 20's try to have this kind of talk with their parents and it always ended in verbal fighting with the parents shaming their kids for how they felt, basically proving their point without the parents realizing it.

I was deeply relieved when you didn't turn the heartfelt story with your son into a long lead up for a joke, I was bracing for it. It would've been funnier, and frankly still would've had excellent structure if you went that way, but you kept your integrity and sacrificed a funny bit for the sake of a richer story and a better relationship with your family.
