To hit first is great advice when you're in a situation where you can't escape and see no other outcome than to fight and defend yourself, why let the other person get the upper hand by waiting for them to hit first.. I've actually had to follow this advice growing up and it has helped me in the situation more so than running and having the problem return all the time.. But one thing is for sure, teachers doesn't care mostly, so if you defended yourself you'll most likely end up as the one starting the whole thing even if you wanted no part of it.
Here in Norway it's also not allowed to use more than necessary force to defend yourself against a threat. So if someone is trying to hit you with their fists then you can't use a weapon against them, or if someone runs at you with a knife you wouldn't be allowed to shoot them, you'd have to use equal force and you can't just hit first, even if you know you're going to get attacked at any moment. You could risk getting punished for using more force than necessary to defend yourself, I kind of understand that for some stuff.. But Jesus, they've made it challenging with how those laws works here, so much so that my girlfriend's little brother got put in prison for hitting someone back when defending himself, reason being is that some of his drunk friends decided they wanted to jump the guy afterwards even when my girlfriend's brother wasn't even involved in the whole thing anymore.

i love you gsp am a big fan, but the tip to fight against a gunman is not a good idea. 1. most people are so shocked that they can't do anything anymore when a person stands in front of you with a knife.very few people can stay cool when someone attacks them and especially when someone stands in front of them with a knife. if someone is standing in front of you with a knife you should never fight,is not a good idea too come close too this person but if it is at all possible flee then flee if you can, because 99% of people have no chance against a knife no matter who it is.

Terrible advice on the knife defence Georges. I’ve been in knife fights and spent many years in the penitentiary. You never want to get closer to the knife, and if you can, be sure to wrap your defensive hand with a shirt or jacket and deflect the knife. DO NOT TRY TO TRAP THE KNIFE WITH YOUR BODY like the legendary gsp recommended pls or it could end up inside your body

very bad advice a real experienced fighter will see your intention that you want to gauge the eyes and if you hesitate your dead accept gods protection its more powerful than anything in this world and just be kind to others help others and respectful smile that's true martial arts respect and honor

Here's one, learn to kick. Most people have no defense from the waist down. Never let them get close enough to punch you or grab you. Many fights end with one kick. If they know how to defend the kick, and return fire, lookout. LOL
