How Pokemon Scarlet & Violet RUINED Pokemon- A Retrospective Of The WORST Pokemon Game

My favorite game of all time was Alpha Sapphire they took the game that made me fall in love with Pokemon, Pokemon Emerald and amped it x2. All the super tracks the mega evolutions of gen 3 the only thing I will never forgive game freak is they didn't give my favorite mon a mega, Flygon 😭

Ok so I'm aware of the time this video was posted but I wish to respond to this still. Straight forward, as a Franchise is divided into couple products: The Merchandise (Doll & Accessories) The cards, Animation studios, and the Videos games. Do you honest believe that with better graphics, game performance, better story and gameplay will turn the tables a whole 720 to push the Pokemon brand forward......IMO absolutely not. If I may interpret what they are thinking, the Merchandise turn over a profit waay more than the games, therefore placing most of my investments in the Merch. will keep the company afloat over the video games. I believe that since The Pokemon Company call most of the shouts they only give Nintendo/GameFreak (most Gamefreak) a fixed budget to make the games so if we think about it, if the Video games was the ONLY selling point for the Brand than expect more time and effort being put into them.


As long as they can rely on multiple options to sell their product they don't have to put so much investment into one thing. The games are like Big Advertising Ads with no reason to make them flashy. Is it the right thing to do it that way...Lets be honest they can make their games look better than they are now, but also, we the fans should understand that have enough on thier plate that sells their brand along without so much help from the games. I guess the only way to change all of this of the whole community boycott Pokemon all together.

The story in scare violet story really sucks

This may sound controversial but…open world just doesn’t work for Pokemon. In this game, your skill doesn’t matter if your levels are low, so that’s why games like Xenoblade force you to do everything in order to. There, you also can’t beat the final boss before you take on the first. And…level scaling is also something I don’t think is that great. Maybe it could just increase everyone at once when a challenge is conquered, but to be honest it’s kind of whatever at that point. It’s like in Monster Hunter when you go from low rank to high rank. It doesn’t change anything, it’s just that both you and the monster have higher stats.

This is why the Pokemon fan base is wrong about 3ds

These games aren’t perfect, they’re fun, but they run horribly. But it didn’t ruin the franchise

I ended up getting an ad for scarlet violet on this video ironicly. Also scarlet violet are not the nail in the coffin, that was swsh, and then legends arceus saved it, then it was re added with dp remakes, then saved-not-quite-as-much-as-legends-arceus with scarlet violet

I thought Sword & Shield were way worse. But yes Scarlet & Violet should have been better. There's no excuse.

It's not the worst Pokemon game and it didn't ruin the series. Yes, it should have been better but calling this the worst is just idiotic.

You had a point with the EXP Share being forced on you. You had no other real points, but that was a good one.

If you're so obsessed with graphics and performance, go play an RPG on the PS5 or latest XBox. I'm so tired of hearing it, and not just with this game, pretty much EVERY Switch game gets this criticism, and many games before it did too. Graphics don't make the game and they never have, unless you're talking Forza Horizon or something where the entire point IS the graphics. It's like when people cried about the TREES in Gen 8, it's annoying, not funny, and not a valid argument to bashing the game. If you want to talk about how the game feels incomplete or underpolished, you have a point, as Gen 8 most certainly did, and even Gen 9 feels that way in areas. If graphics bug you that much, like I said, go play the PS5, latest XBox, or buy a thousand-dollar PC with a $500 graphics card and leave the rest of us who don't care about graphics to enjoy good games.

As for the difficulty complaints, outside of the EXP Share issue, it's a kids game. I get it, you grew up with it, we all did, but it's aimed at kids, it's not gonna be Dark Souls-levels of difficult, and I'm sorry, when you brought up the "the battle screen tells you how effective moves are" point as a detriment, all I could think is "wow, you're just looking for anything to bash this game, aren't you?"

I also must've got the secret perfect edition, because I can't recall ever having crashing issues or major bugs that ruin the game for me (unlike Subnautica on the Switch, which crashes randomly and costs me hours of gameplay due to the lack of an autosave...) so I can't speak for that one.

This whole video sounds like you just hate the game because of something less-than-reasonable (for example, Genwunners, or seemingly your biggest issue, the graphics) and went into nitpick mode and didn't give the game a real chance.

This why I prefer 3d land and Mario kart 7 over this

I wouldn't say pop in is the worst. I'd say the game crashing at worst, and second is the horrendous frame rate piled on with aggressive mons making you back to back to back battle.

Seeing Scarlet and Violet makes me glad I decided to stop playing after B/W2 (and only the beginning of ultra moon).
Idk man, I miss the sprite art a lot.
Ngl I just feel bad for my friends who are dedicated players of the games to this day because I genuinely think they deserve better.
Like why do I have better graphics for the gacha games on my phone than they do for a Main Game of the biggest franchise existing right now on its exclusive console?
And the glitches are icing on the cake; not to mention the downgrading of shops and cities as a whole, it is just so sad to see as someone who grew up so attached to this IP.
I genuinely think with how dedicated pokemon fans have been and continue to be, that the people who continued playing even after the drop of the national dex deserve so much more than this.

The one thing I will give this game is that some of the character designs are pretty good imo, I do enjoy seeing the humans in the pokemon world and I genuinely liked some of the designs I saw here. ❤

I lose braincells every time I hear someone say the trials in Sun and Moon were an improvement over gyms as if the only difference between trials and gyms wasn't just the name.
Trials are still puzzles, smaller battles then a big battle. There is LITERALLY no difference between gyms and trials and I can't believe people actually fall for this shit still.

Havent touched a single pokemon game since sword and shield. What the heckle, bring back good pokemon 😭 i was so disappointed that I scavenged older pokemon games to play (gen4-5)

To me, I think the legendary being so integral to the story was a bad design choice, because it's totally reliant on my liking it, I personally hate both the designs of them, I hate the concept of them being a futuristic/ancient dragon motorbike, I didn't want anything to do with it, not only that but there is no alternative like a bike, I'm just forced to see and use this pokemon I don't want, it felt like it overshadowed my whole team without even being on it

This is why I've realised I actually miss HMs, cause it let's me use the pokemon I want to overcome roadblocks, it made me feel like I was actually bonding with my pokemon, instead I was stuck walking cause I didn't want to use the stupid box legendary to get around but that just made exploration and travelling anywhere just as bad

The open world format just isn't it cause there isn't anything to explore, it's just open spaces with nothing in it but pokemon standing around doing nothing, this also makes me miss random encounters, I think if the pokemon are gonna be out in the open world they should be more curated in how they are presented and interact with the world around them, it doesn't feel alive, the world should be smaller, more dense with more branching routes, Alola did that perfectly, I dont see how they can go from that to Galar which every route was a hallway then to PLA and SV which are so open there's just nothing interesting to explore because it's all just dead space

I think ALOT of the problems with current day pokemon did start with Sun and Moon. Sun and Moon was where the Rival personality issues started, the dumbing down of the game and gameplay, lack of care for some locations and other route designs, cinematic over something more meaningful, the dreaded boxed in trend where we are given new locations to "explore" but they are essentially a box or 1 way street with a few toys and bland scenery(the ultra traveling being the worst offender), pretty barren locations with little to no people or things to do, etc. etc. The only reason Sun and Moon have a leg up on Sword and Shield is because at least you could say the games were competently made and they tried with going for something a little more ambitious. But I think by the time we got to Sword and Shield, that's more like the pinnacle of what was already started. It took the worst traits of Sun and Moon and made a game out it with even worse things, and Scarlet and Violet are no different. A lot of people seem to be falling for the jingling keys and pretty sparkles approach Pokemon have been doing. Where to people as long as the game looked decent a good portion if the time and you could play it most of the time, that means it's an amazing game cause it's "new" and "modern". I believe these people would be called consumers

Honestly, I really like the game and can't get enough of it, but all three companies deserve all the criticism it gets.... all of it.

It's severely poorly optimised. Yes the switch isn't a powerhouse but for this game to run as badly as it does with those textures (which can look pretty occasionally) isn't a power issue. Remember the switch can run botw among other games with more consistent FPS.

MHS2 runs better than Pokémon SV. Why can I count the tiles on the mountains in violet? This game isn't worth the full price of £40 plus the £31 dlc (do you want to pay £71 for this?).

Best to get this game second hand and for no more than £25.

Dropped off on gen 3, now that my sons is gettinf a switch for christmas im trying to determine whats best for him since it will be he 'first' pokemon game.

Eh... Scarlet and Violet aren't that bad. But I agree it's rushed and all, but minus the glitches and a few things here and there, it's alright.

Not going to lie though, I will still go back to some of the older games over some of the newer ones.

They should stick with what works, make a new Let's Go game, with a Johto theme and use the same Pokémon capture scheme with the difference that you have to defeat the Pokémon before throwing the Pokeball, similar to how method of capturing snorlax in the game for example.

Sword and shield killed the series.

I really feel Pokemon Company ought to make things right and continue patching this game. Idk if they will but imo they absolutely should. It’s really a shame because a lot of the game underneath these glaring problems is really really good imo.

I think the laziness and lack of polish started back in Gen 6.

It started with no Battle Frontier in the ORAS remakes, then releasing the same game TWICE IN A ROW FOR THE SAME PRICE WITH WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE HAD AT LAUNCH THE FIRST TIME(The Alola Games).

SWSH then started the whole “Not every Pokemon available in each game despite re-using the same models since 2013.”

Then BDSP came. That’s when it happened; The Franchise killed itself. These are the worst remakes of all time. So much laziness, a Day One Glitch that removes the music and SFX, and more.

And lastly the nail of the coffin, S/V. What do I even say that hasn’t already been said? They forced this game out despite the fact Arceus released FINE.

They are stuck in the 2D-era mentality. I wish the new generation would step up and make better games. USUM has megaevolutions... the quality went downhill after Gen IV. Black 2 & White 2 was great...

"Killed" is a very strong and premature word considering we haven't had a new game yet. I would not be surprised if any future games had less sales now that people are waking up.

Now lemme get one thing straight. As much as I quite like this game, you are absolutely correct about most if not all of its shortcomings. Just because I like something doesn't mean I have to defend every single aspect of it. For example, Fairy Tail is one of my favorite animes of all time and inspired me in a lot of ways. However, I will also point out that the animation quality took nothing short of a nosedive starting with the second half of the Grand Magic Games arc, the filler arcs are all poorly written first drafts that contribute nothing of any real value to the series, Zeref is probably one of the worst written villains of any show I've ever seen, and the constant reliance on fan service and boob shots gets old fast. Similarly, as much as I liked Scarlet and Violet, I simply can't bring myself to defend the fact that the graphics are on par with early PS2 games, the glitches and bugs are somehow worse than those of Red and Green ever were, the WiFi straight up doesn't work, and the game crashes if you so much as breath on it. As such, I tend to agree with basically every criticism that isn't levied at the plot or characters. Again, I like these games, but I'd be lying straight through my teeth if I said that I didn't mind the plasticky character models or the fact that the game crashes more often than a Long Island driver.

Yeah, selling dlc, online balance whatever... But I still don't think it makes sense to change the regional and national dex system. Have your limited set of mons, that's fine, just let EVERYONE in after the E4. Just program the fucking game, guys. The monsters already exist, you have nothing holding you back, just let people use the Pokemon they've already caught. You made your money on those, stop filtering mons for NO reason.

Region design peaked in 4, with excellent regions in 3 and 5. 6 started the hard downward trend, and 7 was a horrific nose-dive into the abyss. It's only gotten worse.

honestly, i could deal with the graphics. i really could. the gameplay and everything else SAVE FOR THINGS LIKE NOT BEING ABLE TO ENTER FUCKING BUILDINGS is fine. This wouldve been SO good if they took more time with it. And honestly i enjoyed playing it despite its issues, and when the new switch comes out and it runs at at least yk 30fps stabley? Itll be so much fucking better!! But they need to release a big ass update that adds all the features they wanted that got cut due to the time crunch pokemon co and the other two companies put on them.

I teach elementary kids to high school kids in Japan. Almost all my students love Pokémon but a lot of them are still playing sword and shield. I asked them if they have scarlet and violet. They do but they say sword and shield is better

i'd argue xy is where the series went wrong. not because the game is fundamentally bad (in fact i say xy is the last time the devs cared at all), but because it is completely and utterly unfinished and all future games have followed suit.

xp share all is a bandaid solution to a massive issue with pokemon; leveling sucks. it won't come up in normal play because the games are piss easy, but if you have to actually engage with the game fully (which only happens in fan games that put an emphasis on difficulty) you realize it is an utter slog. ever get to a gym leader and realize you need a different pokemon to deal with it? of course not, because pokemon is piss easy, but in the better (fan made) games it is a major pain in the ass to train up a pokemon for a new strategy against a new challenge even with dedicated short cuts like dime-a-dozen candies and suicide audino trainers.

Honestly, I started losing interest in Pokemon after Sun and Moon and I'm glad I stopped following it. Now I can safely say my pokemon experience was never ruined by glitchy games. Thats why I'm only playing fan games now, they have more fun into them.
