ОтветитьGit tutorial pls
ОтветитьI've been on the fence of Unreal vs Godot. I know its more about what the project calls for, but Unreal has such an incredible amount of features. Even with 5% royalites, I'd be very baffled if I made a solo project that made 1 million USD.
ОтветитьGame engine is a tool. If you make a house using a hammer, and the hammer company suddenly comes and demands 100K, how stupid that would be. This is unity (and maybe future unreal, who knows). Godot respects you and does not do that.
ОтветитьBeing the unofficial spokesman for Godot is a pretty cool title.
ОтветитьGodot i love it the same as you
Ответитьi like godot cause it can run on my toaster and it's really powerful
Ответитьmake a godot tutorial!
ОтветитьUnity is ok but no more, you can't even address all graphics settings via code so that the user can change them all freely in the game. it's is very limited, only resolution and graphic styles.. Godot has more freedoms, it's not perfekt at the time but it's getting better with every update and it can become the Blender in engines.
I switched to Godot too.
Sorry for my English, im not a nativ.
game maker studio was my first engine and I still like it, glad I still have the lifetime license for windows and HTML export, and wont have to pay a subscription... however its just not really feasible to stick with in a professional setting. The only way to be successful would be to make a hit indie project like Undertale.
And im just never gonna make an undertale.
So I went to Unity. But then, well... You know.
So now im doing a Godot and I kind of wish I started here.
Can you do a video going through every game you’ve ever made?
ОтветитьYou’re the reason I picked godot. Started out with game maker and did some pygame but godot has been my long term pick because of you for 1+ years now
Ответитьi couldn't even put a cube to my scene in godot -_- (i dont even know where the hell is scene)
Ответитьunreal is the best though. but you don't need it unless you like C++ or wing it on bluprints.
Ответитьnow there are 11
ОтветитьI want Godot and you Made it happen! THX.
Ответить"It's okay to support your favorite engine, that's okay. Just it can get expensive at times, and they can change it in the future."
Unity situation:
Oh gee. I wonder why this is showing up in my feed ;)
ОтветитьSometime in September 2023 : 1 reason to go to Godot
Anyway, it's more about personal preferences and although I really really prefer Unity just because I've been used to it, I wanted to try Godot but I didn't have time. Now I feel like I don't want to spend time to Unity because of the announcement and looking for Godot's similar functions to Unity.
this video aged well
ОтветитьNow you know what I feel.
Ответитьunity charges for everytime a game gets installed or reinstalled i am also switching my smash fangame will have to be remade but i will do it
Ответить2024 top 1 reason why you shuld..
Ответить"what if they changed the price"
this aged golden
We all know why we unity devs are now watching this video
ОтветитьThere is a new reason
ОтветитьTop 1 reasons why u should quit unity. (1. Fees for literally installing ur game while making indie devs bankrubt.
Ответитьwith the new unity update there's now another big reason to switch lol
Ответитьpeople watching 2023 now know the value of a software being open source (unity did the charging per installation thing)
ОтветитьI’m literally going to have to transfer all my crap to godot now. I guess it’s a good thing since I can iron out some parts of my game that are overly complex. I just hope, if it’s successful, that I won’t have too much trouble porting it to the Nintendo Switch or PS or Xbox
ОтветитьYou can officially add another major reason to this list now
Ответитьthis video aged very well
ОтветитьHere after unity's "per install fee" announcement😅.
ОтветитьYou were ahead of your time :)
ОтветитьHello everyone 😂
ОтветитьNumber 7 sold me on Godot, I have a potato PC and I wanted to make 2d games but whenever I open up Unity it just makes my laptop an air fryer
ОтветитьI can't believe game devs "force" people to pay for their games. They should just give their product away for free like they expect the game engine devs to give theirs away for free.
ОтветитьBefore you jump in, remember: you can’t make your game for consoles in Godot. You will have to port or pay someone to do it, and then dive into update hell
Ответить10 reasons to switch from Unity to Godot, but there is no real reason.
1. Godot is open source? So what, I have yet to see a single game developer who would want to stuck at a low level the global light rendering code, instead of working on game mechanics. But if you really want this, then all the sources are available by subscription.
2. Take a paid subscription, if you earn more than 100k per year on the game. With such a huge income, do you feel sorry for a couple of hundred bucks for the support of your main tool? Did you was sorry for 30% that you paid to store(s)?
3. If you want a lightweight engine and builds weighing a couple of megabytes builds, just download the tiny unity and connect only those engine blocks that you really need. Thanks to this, you can run the game even inside advertising.
4. Community? Seriously?! You won't find as many tutorials, blogs, books, conferences as in Unity community.
5. There are 2d and 3d... hmm Unity has had it for many many years and with support for a lot more necessary tools and libraries.
6. Reusing old assets and libs ... it is easy to reuse your own assets, but you also have access to thousands of other developers' assets in 3-4 mouse clicks.
7. The performance of the engine, in fact, has already been voiced, but the cross-platform has not been voiced, Godot even the consoles does not support, not to telling about a toaster.
8. A wonderful GD scripts that, as you say, blows your mind for a while after years of development and is can't be used anywhere else, unlike the C# that can be used anywhere to create a backend or generally outside the gamedev industry.
9. Collaboration is generally a default requirement for any modern IT project, and now only kids will work without a git or other tools for collective dev.
10. Unity import sprites, atlases, models, sounds, other parts of the product through one click or drag and drop, and then you can update them directly in real-time development. I don't see any advantage here also.
So, in total, for all the above points, the Unity is above the Godot on couple heads. Maybe in some future Godot will be beter but not right now and not soon definitely.
been trying fooling around with pygame a lot to the point where it's simply not powerfull enough anymore.
Tried unity, unreal, gamemaker and way more engines, now godot... I INSTANTLY feel at home, so simplistic yet really powerful, just what i need/want
I didn't even hear of godot before looking more into game engines to use and other peoples devlogs. I've also never heard of git until I watched this video. Thank you a ton for the quick flash facts on godot. I've been looking into it for a while but was always skeptical on it. I hope godot v4 is out now (since it's been a year since the release of this video) because I'm 100% down to try it. Thank you again for this vid, it really helped a lot
ОтветитьHey thanks foe great video, wondering if you could answer a question I have?
I've started learning Flutter in hopes to make a very basic game and export to both iOS and Android. But later down the track I would like to make a more complex game.
Is it feasible to use Flutter for front end like menus, sending notifications to user etc and then Godot for the actual game?
Godot is 10/10
ОтветитьI like how you can embed the resources in the executable. Gives you a single tidy .exe file so quickly after clicking on the export button.
ОтветитьI started using game maker when I was 12 around when it came out and thought it was great, cost like 20 bucks for full version no internet needed so 20 bucks and it was ur no strings. The last version I really used was 7 and it was good for the 2d games I made I enjoyed the layout it was very intuitive but I disliked having to connect online everytime with my full version. When studio came out they changed so much it felt totally different and I really missed the original sprite editor. I just started using godot 3.5 and have a lot to learn but I am comfortable with the language as its close to python and it should be able to do everything I need. Best part is its free and doesnt require internet connection to work.
ОтветитьDoes it support .blend files?
