They fell with the end of the PS2/Og Xbox era. It all became about putting lipstick on a pig. No more innovation beyond anything cosmetic or micro transaction related.

You said something key near the end of this video. Large corporations don't tend to get more in touch with consumers as they grow. Hope isn't the answer however. People who dont like how Madden has changed need to boycott the game. Hoping it gets better while continuing to buy the watered down product does nothing to stop the cycle. If EA loses money they will be forced to promote microtransactions more which could alienate more fans, or actually improve the product in such a way as to get fans to buy it again. Or cancel the series entirely, thus hurting a profit window for themselves.

EA is what happens when the suits get blinded by their own BS. The amount of revenue they lose likely outweighs their repackaged loot boxes and etc. I want a football game but will never buy madden games as they are. And there are many like me. So for them to say they're "maximizing profits..." Nah. They're going for stripped down trash at low cost and then exploiting kids for mommy and daddy's credit cards. Their business model is that of scumbags.

As a kid, Madden '07 was my favorite video game. There was so much content and I had endless joy.

REAL simulation football would have players sometimes need to run to the locker room to take a dump, and there'd be an ass wiping mini game.

If EA ever loses it’s exclusive license for Madden - the company won’t exist cause Madden would be NBA Live

Hire programmers without experience they don’t have to pay - when they get enough experience to command more money - move them on for the next cheap one.

They don’t want you to have other game modes because they want to lead you to the micro transactions.

You could make this same video about Blizzard and the industry as a whole.
I left sports gaming for WoW in 2006 after the exclusive rights deal - now that model of greed and micro transaction has spread to all games like a virus.

Remember you could have 4 friends and fantasy draft the entire league then just play a tournament and use created teams.

I would legit play Madden 2005 with a roster update rather than the current Madden.

If Madden sales drop enough, I could see EA just shuttering the series, but still paying for the NFL license, so there would be NO NFL games at all. Just to spite the fans.

I remember my cousin got a sega genesis Christmas 1989 and he had madden. My favorite is madden 94 I didn’t like in madden 95 the players seemed skinny and a lot smaller compared to 94

2k and take 2 are starting down this path with the nba2k series. Greed.

My first Madden was John Madden football for the Genesis in 1990. I probably had every Madden from there up until ‘05. Then, ‘08, ‘12, ‘16 and probably my last…’20.

EA WAS my childhood.

I loved Madden, their baseball game (can’t remember the name), and of course nba live/vs series, boxing. Like, we haven’t had a boxing game in like 13 years!

It was video game heaven.

Before exclusive deals, when devs had to work to make us buy their game each year because they had to compete with 1-2 other games every year.

Though other genres have micro transactions, I think that exclusivity is what is killing sports games. Because, someone else would make a simulation football game and it would be purchased by those of us who are dying for it. Just haven’t had a great nfl video game experience in over a decade…that’s sad. And it makes me even more sad when I realize that there are kids who only know this and thinks it ROCKS!

Well its been 2 years and if anything its only gotten worse 🤣

They made too much money, that happened. Companies get complacent ones the dollars role in. They don't care anymore, only about the bottom line.

Success ruins American companies. The management now are disconnected from the product and game player base, but they don't care because as long as they are making huge profits, then that's all that counts. They all think they're doing a good job, just look at the bottom line. They know that no matter how bad the game is, given Lincoln's summation "some of the people some of the time, and some of the people ALL the time."... then they will always sell enough (since the games are developed cheaply now - cut and paste, remove features, don't waste time debugging just patch it later,) to make plenty of money. And then they push the modes that make them the most money. Online play - since they now do not have to worry about single player so, that can be crap, and monetisation like Ultimate Team, allows them to be cheap in development but still make huge $$$. Yes they do not worry about the best game they can make, it's just "how can we make the most money?"

People wonder why I keep my old consoles... PS2, PS3, Xbox360... it's because I can still play those older games, and enjoy them, back from when the games were GOOD and fun. The game was complete when you bought it, you got everything for the initial price, nothing more to buy. It literally was "in the game"

Born in '90 but I played Madden 95 and 97 a lot thanks to my older brother and dad. 95 was more fun to play, but 97 had a create a player mode with combine type drills that I loved doing. I had a couple madden games on 64, but once we got a PS2 I was all about 2K. Since 2K's demise I've bought a couple madden games, but none in the past ten years. Too bad. As huge as the NFL is we really deserve a great football game. A new, well made NFL game could completely take over, but it's not going to happen as long as EA holds exclusive rights and they have no incentive to improve their product.

2023 and Madden games still the same way.

I remember the sports games from 2003 to 2010 the insane amount of features, depth, and things to do in them.

I wore so much ecko as a kid that it became my nickname, madden actually went and made a frickin ecko team in that time, they were so in tune w the vibes!

I know what went wrong they went from focusing on gameplay to just focusing on how much money they get out of the customers through micro transactions. I hope madden 24 bombs so they lose the license and another company can try. tired of the shitty madden games 23 is hot garbage

It's actually insane. Sports game's Could Dominate & have so much success if they just make good, passionate games. Profit will naturally come! Think of how much creativity could occur in sports games? Its crazy how none of that is being utilized. There's ways to make super fun games without Over complicating it to the point where nothing is fun.. there are other directions to go. Better directions.
