Since then, Taiwan and Penghu do not belong to China anymore. During the civil war between the Chinese Kuomintang and the Communist Party. The Chinese Kuomintang, the Republic of China and Chinese refugees fled to Taiwan. Chiang Kai-shek only had temporary trusteeship. The Republic of China is a regime in exile.
