In western Canada for some reason I can’t even find a 77mm Hoya . Seems like the Camera Store in Calgary has gone with Photo republic, which I’ve never heard of

I think the price of hoya comes from the quality multi coating of the glass... The polerizing effect are cheap to produce but not the coating, that's why you get the warmer tone and tint

Sorry I feel your far to biased towards the hoya filter rather than the Amazon basics.

The only problem I've had with cheap filters of all types, on many different cameras and lenses, is that the cheap ones have flimsy frames which can bind to the lens and be difficult to remove. Many years ago I bought a set of plastic filter wrenches which solved the problem and now live permanently in my camera bag.

Cheaper one is multicoated?

Thank you for this test. However, I draw the opposite conclusion you do. Here we are with a big, big investment in cameras and lenses but look to save just a wee bit of money on the filter that will determine much of the resulting image quality. My criteria is that an accessory improve my photos and not make more work in post correcting it's defaults. So, I would go for the Hoya (or other high quality) polarizer every time. But, again, thanks for the excellent and useful video!

Here is the secret for you. Get Kenko. Both Hoya and Kenko are made at the same factory from the same glass.

Thanx 4 this content, I would increase the middles in the forrest, but this is personal and the beauty of photo is that is just milions of points of view and all of them are right. do you know other CPL that have no chromatic issues? Thanx mate, Max

I've always used Kenko CPL and UV, good prices, kinda like amazon basics, but i did notice the difference between with and without and not comparing UV with UV or CPL with CPL. Is that without, my pictures when zoomed at 100%, were more cleaner and nicer, not so much noisy kinda like. So i would say, if you have a nice expensive good quality glass like Nikkor 24-70mm for FX cameras, don't ruin the quality with a cheap filter, the image will be a bit grainy and it's a shame, especially if you are a perfectionist (like me) and you want absolutely quality.

FYI, the Hoya is still low end. a B+W master is triple the price of it

A follow up test would be to compare the circular Hoya vs a Linear Polarizer on a mirrorless camera. A mirrorless camera does not need a circular polarizing filter. Only a DSLR needs that circular filter.

It's always the same, isn't it? You can get pretty good quality fairly cheap, but the cost starts rising quickly when you try to take those final steps toward perfection. Personally, I stick with cheap until I start noticing its limitations.

Nice comparison and some interesting and useful results. Liked and subbed, because I'm a real gentleman that way.
😇

It's one thing to say that they Hoya is £70 and the Amazon one is a little under £13. But when you can adjust the Amazon filtered pics with Photoshop, you have to take into consideration the cost of Photoshop which is anywhere from £30 to £50 depending on which Photoshop you get. So that places the Amazon filter up to £43 to £63 and with the Hoya, you didn't need to do anything with the pictures.
The Amazon's good, but the Hoya is still in a different class.

Hello, I was looking at the Hoya filter and they have a circular and a linear . What's your opinion which with more suitable for a mirroles Camara?
Thanks for the review.

Is the warmth of the Amazon correctable with white balance?

This was very brave of you. The subject of cheap vs expensive can be extremely polarising!

I use the cheap CPL's as "lens" shoot thru run and gun caps. ESPECIALLY since actual lens caps do not seal or even "cap". The cheap ons have a hue so they are only good for snapshops.
