I love that she makes the first move as an adult woman, knowing what she wants. I wish they would show more passionate females declaring their love. It is unusual to see, but it pulls you into her world, and finally we see a strong queen emerge.

Context behind droll tragedy:

R says she missed him and he abandoned her (which he did) - so she was left all alone to deal with the horrible court politics etc which became a burden to her. Obviously she loves him, so life has been a tragedy for her.

And then D responds "what do you think mine wasn't?" Which means he feels the same for her. He was kind of content with Laena but R is his true love- so much so that he considers it to be a tragedy to be married to someone else when shes out there. It's because she wasn't there that he couldn't be fulfilled and completely happy. Notice how when she asked him if he loved Laena, he did not say he loved her but said we were happy enough. And then R says " that is an achievement in itself"- meaning D doing even that is a big improvement (she's just blaming him because he abandoned her partly since Viserys did not agree to their marriage and because she was a child).

And they make love less than 6 months after Laena's death. He did not really love Laena- he cared for her in a friendly way. Laena herself said that she knew she was not the wife he wanted, and Daemon protested but weakly (says so in the official scene script). Obviously he was pained by her death coz he was fond of her, but Rhaenyra is the love of his life.

The books are based on 3rd party sources, often biased and hateful so I would take the relationship described there with a pinch of salt. Besides, those sources would not have really known what went on in private and in their heads.
