I can build you a survival kit with stuff from around the house, a $100 I'd live like a king in the swamp, you actually wasted money if you believe that a survival kit should be expensive, you shouldn't be in the woods trying to survive, you need to come down here and I'll take you in the swamp and show you how to survive and how to live.

Dude. Could have gotten the tools at Harbour Freight cheaper (magnesium fire starters are like $2!!!) HF has TONS of cheap survival stuff (which is great for leaving at bugout locations)
You know Walmart isn’t just the outdoor section right???
Those freeze dried food pack are crazy expensive!!! You could have gotten cans of meat/veg/fruits waaay cheaper!!! Do you REALLY NEED paracord instead of regular rope???

Most of the survival posts leave out ADULT WIPES. Nothing could get worst then a room of humans who have NOT bathed in a week! The stench will be unbearable and lead to stress and mental breakdown. You do NOT want to use your water to bath. Check out all the benefits of using adult size wipes to include easy disposable and can be used for a heating source like fires. Wipes can also have the option of being scented to help hide body odors.

Not even gonna watch it because there's no point…….

You don’t “play” Survivorman, that’s not how it works. True survival is an “emergency outdoors wilderness situation” where you didn’t set out to go play-pretend where you have this cool kit ready to go.

First of it’s just the size of it, and its WAY too big, you’ve already crossed the SIZE line. Let me explain why you have it all wrong, it usually happens like this in the real world – you’re out for the day or a week or whatever , canoe tripping, or a mountain bike tour, or a backpacking trip or something OTHER than going to go pretend you’re Grizzly Adams in the woods.

1. You’re out for the day or a few days or a week or whatever for a thing in the outdoors.

Then before you know it or you’re prepared for it, something bad happens …… you’re outdoors recreating and then Hey Presto all your gear is gone.
The canoe dumped or you lost it, or you dropped the pack when running from a bear, or it fell off the bike and you lost it.
Bottom line is all of your stuff is gone.

2. You lose all your gear or camping supplies because of an accident/incident.

That’s what creates the emergency, that loss !! After all if you have ALL of your gear or your backpack or whatever, and something happens, its bad, but its not major or life threating from exposure for example. If you have all your stuff, or your backpack, or a car full of gear then yes, it’s a problem and you might be stuck or even lost or maybe you got injured - but with all your usual stuff – that’s basically just a forced extended-trip while you wait for rescue because you were smart enough to tell someone your plans.

3. If you have all your equipment not much changes …….

So now you’re in the outdoors and all you have its what’s on your person or what’s in your pockets, that’s where it gets real. You’re standing there in the outdoors with nothing – now it’s a matter of skill time. What can you do, just as you with no gear? That’s what creates the true “emergency outdoors wilderness situation” it wasn’t planned and you don’t have any stuff.

Now the trendy survival bag, like you made here and that I’ve now seem 70+ people make and yap about on You Tube. Except its mostly for views and they’ll NEVER actually use it. It’s a way to jump on the survival bandwagon and make easy content to get views and thus MONEY!

Most of the kits I see are not realistic or practical at all and neither is yours. It’s not a backpack of camping gear, or a pile of camping equipment in a canoe for trip, it’s just a bag of stuff. Mostly it’s entirely the wrong size !!! You’d never have that in your pocket in a coat or Goretex rain jacket with you on a day hike or camping if you were outdoors doing XYZ thing.

Survival kits look cool ad god knows they’re trendy but then so does your backpack with all the camping gear in it. Or the canoe with all the stuff in the boat for a river trip. Or your bike and panniers on the bike for a 300 mile trial ride.

4. A survival kit is always on your person – you carry it all the time.

A survival kit is the thing you have on your person AFTER you lose your gear ………………..

You need a small 5 x 7 or altoids size tin of “stuff” that sits in your jacket pocket forever and you never look at it or use it till that emergency happens THAT is what a survival kit is for – you make your life a bit easier while you wait the average 1-3 days to get recused.

Your cute bag of stuff is great if you wanna go play in the woods and pretend you’re Survivorman for the day instead of going outdoors and actually doing legitimate recreational activates !

Can I suggest:

Fishing Canoeing Backpacking Day Hiking Hunting Mtn Biking Road Tripping Jogging Climbing

Orienteering Kayaking Geo-Caching Ice Fishing X-Country Skiing Rafting Caving

Basically anything besides sitting around on You Tube making videos for a kit of something you never use or do because you don’t go outdoors and actually DO things.

Lastly don’t confuse going outside deliberately trying to play woodsman or pretending its Walden Pond all over again – that’s not survival. That stuff is called “wilderness living” and its not the same thing as a but it does use the same skills and gear. Besides you can’t run away and live in the woods unless you buy the land and pay land tax on it.

Also don’t confuse Survival or a proper pocket size survival kit with the idiots who never GO outside, but are ready to survive with their bibles, guns, and god on their side while they wait for: the big one to drop, the super quake, the EMP bomb, the meteor to hit earth, or the Ruskies to invade, that’s not realistic either ….. much like your kit.

You get what you pay for. Ozark Trail makes bottom of the barrel goods. For camp ground camping, backyard getaways, fine. But I’d recommend, if you have a serious desire to perfect a survival bag(s)…I have 3, working on a refined fourth…don’t go too cheap if you value your skin. And learn the tricks of the tradecraft, don’t just stuff a survival book in a backpack. Practice some skills in the backyard then go camping and use those skills. Even the shit doesn’t hit the fan, you’ll be the dude at the camp out who might save the party.
Just sayin’….

I'll say this the hatchet I had (same one in video) snapped completely in half about a week of using it lol. So I guess it's good for a week. I turn the head of it into a throwing (knife/broken hatchet head thing) works really well as that. The knife also broke and never held an edge.

One 1lb bag of lentils at Walmart is about $1.34 (2022) a 4 lb bag is $5.63 (2022) the least expensive mountain house freeze dried bag is $7.55, for ONE meal.

The lentils, properly stored, would last as long as the freeze dried food AND would provide far more meals than ONE bag of freeze dried food.

An oven bag (you know the ones where you cook turkeys in) can withstand high heat and hold a substantial amount of weight. You can use them to collect water and boil it over a fire or at least for water storage and it is cheaper than the plastic water thing.
