This vibe is amazing. I love your videos. Thank you for posting!!! Steve Jobs Mode leads to bad code when faux Steves forget they're not Jobs. That was my introduction to consulting. 🙃

In previous videos you told us that as a single consultant one can only get small projects. Why not team up with other consultants? What are the hurdles of starting consultancy with friends? :)

It sounds like "bad and worse client"

I do consultancy.... man... every single time.... that's why I always stick with the disorganized clients. They pay, and you are moving forward, even slowly.

The "steve jobs" you are refering to I have one. We have an app to build. We are still at stage 0, and restarting every 3 month, because steve jobs has spoken. lol

One of the strategies I've encountered from bad companies is for them to involve ('get buy-in') from as large a number of non-senior but responsible people as possible.

I first encountered this at an extremely badly run organisation and initially it confused me as to why people who were only tangentially related needed to give permission. Later I realised that this was a well horned blame diffusion strategy as so many people would be technically responsible if (i.e. when) things went wrong.

They were also really fond of IMAP, something I later realised was so they could centrally delete user accounts including all the emails and therefore the communication evidence.

And this wasn't in the 'states so the legal consequences weren't so clear cut.

I would say my company is a good client to our consultants, but we make time for them. They’re helping us build a hugely valuable internal app, and we’re invested in making sure it’s made right.

So... Bad clients can be distinguished by the fact that they are clients

Maybe instead of IT consulting start consulting consulting company to help other consultant with their IT consulting :D

I do embedded consulting work on side and I get alot of these type of good clients. Now my strategy is just to say yes to there every bullshit request and horde money from them and in the end IDC if there product works or there company sinks XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

the steve jobs client is super bad. I used to work for one and make good web pages for them, but they never liked any of that, so I left after 9 months of working with them. 6 years later it still uses the same disgusting bootstap buggy mess today and they just re coloured a few of the elements I did put on there to match their "branding"

Many of these problems can be fixed by charging them for your time while you are waiting for their sign-off, meetings, etc. They'll get back to you quickly if you're on the clock.
