Something I have not understood. Why should Italy have prepared itself for a war? No country in the world was threatening Italy. It was only Mussolini who wanted to attack other countries in order to take their territory. Only aggression war! But if a country wants to unleash aggressive war must be armed to the teeth with the best modern weapons. If one is going to use force should have the force. Mussolini was only a laughable boaster who was a catastrophe for Italy.

One time in warthunder I was driving this, tracks got shot out and I was stuck at a weird angle. I then somehow bounced off over 20 shots while my team kept destroying enemies. Once I finally got my tracks repaired and moved i got sniped by some heavy tank 😂

I would not of like being expected to fight in the p26 40 the bolting togeather would of been a nightmare . It might of held up for a little while when the were fighting in Africa against the Somalis . that is until it broke down and spent it all it’s ammunition. Then the soldiers armed ewith clubs are spears simply had to wait until the crew surrendered.

Interesting that they had a such a small automotive industry, yet these days is a country know for their performance automotive industry!
Same with Germany in that it wasn’t hugely automotive then when compared to France and the US but is now.

When you take a Fiat 500 Topollino and give him tracks, then you call that "a tank" :p

To be fair to the Italians, their tanks were designed for national defense and not for expeditionary actions like everyone else's.

Anyone who ever worked on a 1960's Fiat will tell you there is nothing over-designed, over-engineered or over-built in Italian vehicle design. I'm not saying it doesn't work, it's just that there's no need for welding or rivets if you already have bolts laying around.

While this keeps cars cheaper, military vehicles some times have to go beyond their specifications in a changing combat environment. I tend to believe that most of the issues with Italian cars were that they simply weren't meant for the kind of use they would receive in the US. Nor were Italian tanks designed to face Allied or German heavy tanks. As to breaking down all of the time... that's kind of what Italian machines do when you push their limits.

the p40, one of my fave low tier tanks. it looks like a small and weakly armored vehicle, but it has adequate armor and has a surprisingly heavy shell(an aphe shell that has about the same amount of explosive mass as that of the tiger's shell).

Something else to consider regarding the small size of their tanks is the size of streets in Italian towns: they can be quite narrow.

Italy's resoucres 1940 were ZERO that's why Italy shouldn't have declared war to nobody. Mussolini knew too well that his country was prepared for a war but he declared it anyhow because he thought that Hitler had already won and he wanted to take part to the dividing of the spoiler.

Very interessting view into Italian tankdesign. And what impact the geographical cirunstances have. The Veloce isnt a bad thing for his. purpose.
I guess i will inform myself why italys industry wasnt at a level like germany or other countries in europe. I mean italy can't remain untouched by the industrial revolution..at least imo^^'

Btw: in WT the P40 is fun2play on his tier :D

I met several Italian prisoners of war in the UK who decided to make their lives here. Unlike Germany (and us) all we wanted was a quiet life. The Italians to grow their grapes and us - anything. Over the 2 or 3 years I met the farmworkers I grew more and more fond of them, so much, so I met their families and quite often an enormous 'spud' would be saved for me. They mostly did not want war, so sad that, like Germany, all it takes is just one man to destroy so many lives.

Italy and Romania would have served their war better by remaining neutral and supplying Germany with materials and oil that could not be attacked by the allies.

They got War Thunder mobile now better than World Of Tanks Blitz no chat so you don't have to listen to the try hards cry after they charge off unsupported in the middle of an open field and subsequently die then blame the team even though they have 44% win rate did 100 damage and no kills

Germany was not a good ally

Germany coukd have provided italy with a hundred panzers in exchange for components to nake tanks.

Italy was never able to produce a reasonable number of medium tanks

I understand why the Italian Army wanted a specific type of tank for the northern territories. However, the stupidity of their decision become apparent. With the fall of the Auto-Hungarina Empire, Italy no longer had a major enemy that required light tanks that could navigate mountainous terrain. Mussolini considered Yugoslavia to be Italy's primary enemy (and devoted a significant amount of planing to fish the Yugoslavs) so why tenth Italian Army persist in their quest for tankettes that were unsuitable for any other purpose?

I really enjoy your channel.
Especially the coverage of lesser known vehicles.
I figure you're just the person to direct this question to.
In the opening sequence of this particular video.
I spotted an often used clip of what looks like the idler wheel of a PzKpfw IV D running in reverse . Or is it just me?
I've seen this clip in many videos over the years, elsewhere and yet no one ever seems to mentioned its use.
Trivia trivia😂
